About the Role
THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are looking for an Associate Director, Internal Audit who will provide management and the Board with an objective and independent assurance of AIA Vietnam’s internal control systems through planning and execution of audit assignments. The individual will lead the AIA Vietnam audit team and provide recommendations to management that are relevant, business-oriented and value added. The individual is expected to always operate to promote the achievement of the objectives of AIA Group Internal Audit and AIA Vietnam.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management of audit plan and contribution to Group Internal Audit
  • Identify key risks at the local level considering the relevant strategies and business environment, and design and deliver an audit plan providing appropriate assurance to the local Board and management.
  • Ensure high professional standards as required by the Group Internal Audit Charter and Manual
  • Lead the local audit team in the planning and execution of audits/reviews and evaluate the adequacy of controls according to established schedule and quality requirements. Supervise the execution of all phases of audit engagements, supervising the audit team.
  • Deliver audit reports, lead discussion of findings and remedial action plans with management.
  • Report results of internal audit activities to the local Board Audit Committee and other committees and management forums.
  • Follow-up audit issues and supervise implementation of the agreed remedial actions by management.
  • Assist regional audit teams in thematic and focus areas to be assigned from time to time (e.g., data governance and health related reviews).
  • Cascade new regulations relevant to Internal Audit, conduct gap analysis and propose action plans to ensure Internal Audit’s compliance with the prevailing regulations.
  • Perform review of the adequacy and effectiveness of risk management in accordance with the applicable standards.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of overall business issues. Understand AIA Vietnam’s structure and functional responsibility. Assess efficiency and effectiveness during audits and align with AIA Group strategy and objectives.
  • Promote new ideas and good practice of implementing engagements and internal infrastructuimprovementsnts. Demonstrate dedication to AIA and GIA’s strategic vision, be a self-starter and promote accountability and responsibility for actions.
Monitoring/ coordinating with other control community and stakeholder management
  • Maintain deep business relationships with appropriate levels of Senior Management personnel at Group and local levels, to ensure that GIA is aware of changes in business activities and objectives, and a necessary audit response is developed.
  • Liaise with the control community and other members of the company to contribute to the implementation of an effective and efficient system of internal control.
  • Involve in the implementation of new processes and systems of the company to provide an independent view to management of the quality and effectiveness of the projects upon assignment.
  • Provide professional advice and insights to key stakeholders to enable informed management decisions.
  • Coordinate in reviews performed by regulators, external auditors (for special projects, if any), and other groups providing assurance.
  • Develop rapport with management through regular communication of changes in business operations, emerging risks and potential issues, etc.
  • Perform other responsibilities and duties periodically assigned by the Regional Director of Internal Audit and/or Group Head of Internal Audit in order to meet operational and/or other requirements.
Team development
  • Build and maintain a team of local auditors with the appropriate operating model and capabilities to complete the audit plan and achieve the departmental goals.
  • Provide timely and appropriate coaching, training and performance appraisals to staff.
  • Cascade GIA methodology changes, and provide training and advice to team members on audit methodology.
  • Demonstrate ability to resolve team conflicts and bring groups together to enhance project results through group planning, feedback and development skills.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum ten years of internal/external audit experience. Supervisory working experience in internal audit, risk, compliance or finance functions in insurance, banking or a related industry is preferred.
  • A relevant professional qualification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or equivalent.
  • Understanding of life insurance operations, industry practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Good boardroom presence, and able to interact with and present at local Audit and other committee meetings, as well as interact with regulators
  • Good influencing and negotiation skills and ability to deal with senior management
  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge in risk management.
  • Ability to support multi stakeholder information needs
  • Knowledge with audit tools and other software such as Team Mate, Power BI, Databricks, ACL (or other data analytic tools), MS Office, and intermediate knowledge on IT.
  • Good command of both oral and written English.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyse complex data, identify key issues and discuss issues effectively with the Regional Director of Internal Audit and management to reach appropriate conclusions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet milestones within time, cost and quality constraints.
  • A strong and driven leader and a good team player.
  • Willing to travel within Vietnam, Hong Kong Group Office or other countries for audit, learning and development as required.
