The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ho Chi Minh Region branch (VCCI-HCM), with the support of Oxfam in Vietnam, is implementing the project “Improving the International Market Access of Shrimp and Rice Enterprises through Enhancing Labor Skills and Occupational Health and Safety at Enterprises” during the 2022–2026 period. The project focuses primarily on the provinces of An Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Ho Chi Minh City, and Can Tho City.
The overall goal of the project is that by 2026, 25,800 farmers and female workers in the shrimp and rice value chains in Vietnam will have improved access to social welfare and better working conditions, contributing to gender equality and increased resilience to natural disasters and climate change.
The specific objective of the project is to support 50 businesses in the shrimp and rice sectors to comply with labor regulations and occupational health and safety standards; to practice sustainable production standards and corporate social responsibility standards to promote sustainable development and contribute to gender equality in the workplace. As a result, approximately 22,000 workers in these businesses, including 10,000 female workers in the shrimp and rice chains, will improve their working skills, increase labor productivity, and enhance working conditions, gaining access to full employment and social welfare. This will contribute to promoting gender equality through sustainable and responsible production and business practices.
