Outline of Responsibilities

• Collaborating with the Patent team, senior associates, associates, senior paralegals, and paralegals.
• Preparing or reviewing applications for filing by resolving discrepancies, errors, and omissions; Handling prosecution of patent and industrial design including but not limited to: service proposals, pre-filing advice, filing particulars, prosecution progress, reporting and preparing Response to Office Actions during different stages of examination, voluntary amendment, grant progress, annuity, renewal, translating/reviewing relevant documents including but not limited to specification from English to Vietnamese and vice versa, following up with the Intellectual Property Office of Viet Nam on the cases;
• Handling appeal, opposition, invalidation of patent and industrial design;
• Handling recordal matters such as assignment, amendment for pending and granted patents for both patent and industrial design;
• Handling patent and industrial design searches and providing opinions on the search such as patentability search, freedom to operate search, etc.
• Working together with DRT team on enforcement of patent and industrial design such as drafting advice to client/answering client questions relating to technical matters, drafting/reviewing supporting evidence to obtain expert opinion on infringement assessment, drafting/reviewing arguments submitted to enforcement authorities, working with enforcement authorities, attending the court, etc.;
• Handling other intellectual property matters or regulartory matters of relevant technical nature, such as plant variety, bussiness secret, integrated circuit layout design, etc.
• Monitoring deadlines, files and related information on patents/industrial designs;
• Reviewing appropriate work done by patent team members;
• Training patent team members, new joiners, mentoring interns, as appropriate;
• Assisting appropriate business development activities for patent team including but not limited to drafting fee proposal for important clients, meeting/telecom with clients, legal updating for clients, preparing reply to clients’ inquiries on patent and industrial design matters in Vietnam; writing articles or drafting other marketing materials;
• Assisting patent team when appropriate on docketing/formality issues such as:
• Extracting relevant information on patent applications from correspondence and database of the Vietnam Patent team.
• Entering new cases; patent/petty patent/design application, draft, search, opposition etc., into internal docketing database.
• Maintaining docketing, tracking deadlines and reminders, and generating docket daily and weekly reports to the team.
• Maintaining patent files and regularly reviewing records.
• Reporting application updates to clients.
• Other tasks.

Technical Skills

• University degree in electronics, AI, IT, chemistry/biology.
• A second degree in Law or having IP agent certificate is a must.
• Fluent in English.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new jurisdiction.
• Highly organized with effective time management skills – ability to multi-task and prioritize.
• Detail-oriented, analytical, able to work both independently and in a team to tight deadlines.
• Adventurous and resilient personality – looking to take on a new challenge and contribute to a busy and growing practice.
