Reporting to the Director and CEO, the Assistant Director, Fleet and Collections position is responsible for leading the Fleet and Collections Management division, comprising the Fleet, Conservation and Registration functions.
The position is a member of the ANMM Executive Team and contributes to strategy development and implementation. The position has responsibility for the ANMM Fleet, including their ongoing operations and maintenance. It is also responsible for the ongoing preservation and registration of the ANMM Collection, which is comprised of high value items spanning from large vessels to digital assets.
The position is responsible for the divisional budget, safety and wellbeing and performance of staff members (employees and contractors) and relevant compliance obligations. Continuous improvement is a key element of the role, to ensure that the division evolves in line with the strategic objectives of the organisation.
Key Accountabilities
Under broad direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:
- Review, evaluate and monitor budget allocation, employee performance and objectives across Fleet, Conservation and Registration. Making recommendations to the Director regarding re-adjustment and/or re-assignment of resources for the improvement across the sections.
- Coordinate, facilitate and direct the divisions services in line with Museums Strategic and Operational plan.
- Monitor progress of service delivery elements through procedures and strategies ensuring effective utilisation of available services.
- Evaluate and analyse monthly management reports, service reports and operations to make budgetary recommendations and to make strategic decisions.
- Ensure staff productivity and quality standards are maintained by reviewing training requirements and conducting performance evaluations.
- Ensure a strong and productive staff culture is developed and maintained.
- Manage and coordinate special research requests to improve fleet management and coordinate responses to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure operating budget is achieved. Review forecast against requirements, making recommendations to resolve budgetary issues.
- Identify areas of quality management to enhance productivity through improved work procedures and practices, improved communication and accountability.
- Represent the Museum at various events as requested by the Director and CEO.
- Visitor and staff safety on vessels.
- Knowledge of fleet management, collection and registration.
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting and auditing.
- Highly developed organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage several programs concurrently on time and to budget.
- Ability to establish goals and implement programs for effective services.
- Ability to evaluate and manage large multi-faceted department performing various fleet management activities.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, relationship management skills with ability to build trust and rapport quickly.
- Demonstrated capacity to work well within a mixed team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven experience enhancing existing systems and processes and developing new ones; to ensure operational effectiveness.
Qualifications and/or relevant experience required
Desirable
- Previous demonstrated experience in a cultural institution in the public sector.
