The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking an experienced and highly organised Senior Coordinator, Programs and Activations to join our Programs and Site Activations team in this ongoing APS Level 6 position.

The Senior Coordinator, Programs and Activations plays a key role in developing, coordinating and supporting the delivery of engaging museum public programs and site activations, with a particular focus on families/ young learners, supporting the museums broader strategic direction and the sections key objectives.

Key Accountabilities
Under limited direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:

  • Develop, conceive and coordinate engaging onsite, offsite and online Programs and Activations for the Museum, with a special focus on family audiences, including a financially sustainable program of children’s activities.
  • Manage the logistics and execution of Programs and Activations, ensuring adherence to best practices, schedules, and adherence to budgets, while adjusting plans as needed.
  • Responsible for managing Creative Producer, casual staff, volunteers and contractors, as required, to ensure successful delivery of programs.
  • Identify and manage training requirements and resources for Programs and provide hands -on support, as required, to assist with delivery of Programs and Activations.
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the development and delivery of Programs and Activations.
  • Conduct evaluations of Programs and Activations to assess their effectiveness, impact, and performance, and recommend adjustments as needed to align with the Museum’s broader strategic goals and the section’s key objectives.
  • In collaboration with Head of Programs and Site Activation, assist with formulation and ongoing monitoring of Programs and Activations calendar, to ensure optimum resourcing, exhibition alignment and enhanced section functionality.
  • Undertake WHS and risk management procedures and documentation for allocated Programs and Activations.
  • Develop documentation including papers, reports, presentations and proposals, as required.
Selection Criteria
  • Demonstrated experience in program development and coordination, and an understanding of the working requirements for programs and activations across a broad range of audiences and age groups.
  • Proven ability to develop and produce creative and innovative programs and activations for all ages, with particular emphasis on family audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively liaise, promote, negotiate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective management, project management, customer service, innovation and achievement, as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate staff and volunteers.
  • Knowledge and ability in the initiation, planning, development, marketing and evaluation of successful, innovative and entertaining programs and activations.
  • Ability to work to deadlines, organise priorities and to work effectively in a team environment.

Qualifications and/or relevant experience required

Desirable
  • Ability to work flexibly, after hours, and on weekends, to ensure program and activation delivery when required.
  • Experience from a similar cultural institution that provides services to the public.
  • Knowledge or appreciation of maritime history.
  • Broad knowledge of museum collection, themes, narratives and creative interpretation strategies.

Selection for this position will be made on the basis of relative merit which will be assessed against each item of the selection criteria.
