About your opportunity
Permanent part-time , 30 hours per fortnight
The purpose of this position is to:
- Assist carers and families, service providers and Non-Government Organisations to develop a better understanding of the recovery framework.
- Utilise your lived experience of caring for someone with mental health concerns to serve as a positive role model and work towards achieving the best outcomes for consumers, their families and carers.
- Promote consumer and carer participation within inpatient units and community care units.
- Salary range of $37.68 to $41.90 p.h. (AO3)
- 17.5% leave loading + leave
- 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.
Skills and experience:
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with consumers, carers, families, the community and health professionals, while promoting an understanding of mental health and personal recovery.
- Ability to relate, empathise with, be aware of and see issues from the perspective of a consumer, their carers and families.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and work within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to show proactive and effective communication skills by actively listening, conveying carer and family requirements clearly and fluently, displaying appropriate empathy and adapting style accordingly.
- Demonstrated understanding of recovery and recovery oriented mental health services.
- Demonstrated skills in computer literacy.
- Ability to assist with the planning and delivery of psycho education programs and groups to carers and families of mental health service consumers.
- Certificate IV in Peer Work or the ability to undertake a certificate IV in Peer Work is highly desirable.
- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), there is a genuine occupational requirement for the successful applicant to have a personal lived/living experience of caring for a person with mental health and/or substance use challenges. It is expected that the successful applicant be prepared to utilise their lived/living experience to assist others where appropriate and to be a role model for carers and the wider community to overcome stigma and encourage personal development.
- Blue Card Checks: Potential applicants are advised that the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 requires Queensland Health to seek a 'working with children check' from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian prior to appointment to this position. 5.1.
- Experience working within a public mental health service or the NGO sector as a Lived Experience Carer (Peer) Worker is highly desirable.
- All employees of the MHSG may be required to work in other areas of the service as required.
- This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
