Field Technician - Mackay

The role
The Field Technician roles are based at the major SRA sites and provide field operations support to plant pathology, biosecurity, disease screening and applied research activity. Work can be based on SRA farms but also includes offsite trials. Under the direction of the District Manager the Field Technician conducts or contributes to a range of tasks to support execution of trials such as land preparation, planting, irrigation, fertiliser and herbicide application, sampling, and harvest.

Activities will include:
    Planting sugarcane, frequently cutting cane using a cane knife, trimming, bundling, carrying and loading sugarcane stalks in the field.
    Collecting samples including soil, stalk, and leaf.
    Working, standing, and walking long distances in the field for long periods on uneven ground in cane fields.
    Frequently bending, twisting, squatting, often under weight.
    Any other specific duties and instructions that will be provided by your supervisor.
Who are you?
It is essential that you:
    Are able to perform physical, manual labour in very hot and humid conditions.
    Are physically fit and can lift bundles of cane repeatedly over several hours (up to 20kg).
    Are happy to pay attention to detail and can follow instructions and carry out work safely and accurately.
    Are punctual and reliable.
    Are committed to safe work practices.
    Have reliable transport to and from site and a current driver’s licence.
