The Opportunity:
We currently have an excellent opportunity to join the team as a Forestry Officer Trainee on a two-year maximum term contract.

About the role:
As a Forest Officer Trainee, you will receive extensive training to understand the full scope of a Forestry Officer’s responsibilities. This includes conducting accurate and timely mark-up surveys in designated areas to support timber production while ensuring compliance with the Coastal Integrated Forestry Operations Approval (CIFOA) and Plantations and Reafforestation Code obligations.

This role is a unique opportunity to develop field skills, build industry knowledge, and contribute to sustainable forestry practices across NSW.

We would love you to have / be:
  • Ability to independently plan, prioritize, and adjust based on evolving work conditions
  • Strong interest in forest ecology, with a foundational understanding of native forest timber practices and silvicultural principles
  • Familiarity with forestry legislation, regulations, and best practices to ensure safety and regulatory adherence
  • Strong analytical skills to identify issues in the field and propose practical solutions
  • Ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders and effectively convey messages at different levels
  • Willingness and capability to perform in physically demanding, high-risk environments
  • Comfortable with basic software applications, with a readiness to adopt new technologies as needed
  • Valid drivers licence
