This role is a fixed-term contract between 6th January and 14th January 2025 at the University of Sydney (St. Paul's). You will be required to teach for 4 hours per day, weekdays only.

We are seeking Academic Tutors for our Sydney Summer School in January 2025 who can teach small groups of students aged 13-15 or 16-18 in their target subject. As an Academic Tutor, you’ll not only be an expert in your field but also have a passion for bringing your expertise into the classroom in a fun and engaging manner.
You will need to be able to plan and deliver lessons that achieve the programme’s learning outcomes while providing a memorable experience for your students.
Academic Tutors will teach for 28 hours between 6th - 14th January. They will teach on weekdays for 4 hours per day. This will comprise two-hour sessions in the morning and a further two-hour session in the afternoons.
The average class size is 7, with a maximum class size of 10.
Responsibilities:

• Using the Immerse Experiential Learning Framework and our online platform, Sana, design and deliver a two-week course in your subject including engaging, challenging and interactive lessons for 4 hours each day, Monday to Friday.
• Provide a course overview in advance of the programme, including any resource requirements and provide full lesson plans if requested by the academic team.
• Provide any preparatory tasks or materials to your participants that you deem necessary and beneficial in advance of the programme.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance throughout the programme. Every Tutor will be required to undergo a 45-minute observation from our Academic Team during their period of employment to maintain standards and offer professional development.
• Provide detailed, productive written feedback and suggestions for further development for each student after the programme, including constructive support on three key skills as outlined in the Immerse Experiential Learning Framework.
• Create a personal project outline for each student to complete during lesson time and provide 1:1 support to enable the successful completion of this project.

Essential requirements:

• Formal experience tutoring and/or supervising undergraduate students.
• Experience of small-group learning and discussion-style instruction.
• Ability to teach a broad range of topics within the subject area (International Relations/International Affairs/International Politics).
• Current Ph D candidate or above at a high-ranking University.

Desirable requirements:

• Relevant experience of residential summer schools or summer camps.
• Relevant experience of teaching 13-18 year old students.
• Experience teaching non-native students.
