Newington College

Language Teacher (7-12) - Latin

Stanmore

FULL TIME

October 18, 2024

  • Be a part of our dynamic and collaborative Language department.
  • Great professional learning and development opportunities.
  • Exciting opportunity for innovative and rigorous teaching and learning.

About the Position

Newington College seeks to appoint a full-time (1.0 FTE) permanent Latin Teacher to join our highly successful and innovative Languages Department, commencing in Term 1, 2025. We are looking for a teacher who prioritises authentic language learning, use of ICT and differentiation.

With access to a range of resources, our students enjoy experiencing language learning in fun and authentic ways. Every student in Year 7 learns Latin along with one modern language. As critical and ethical thinkers, they embrace opportunities to compare cultures and develop their understanding of the ancient Roman world, with some students participating in our bi-annual Classics Tour.

The next couple of years are going to be exciting as the Languages Department implements the new NESA 7-10 syllabus and redevelops our learning spaces. As part of a dedicated Languages team, the successful candidate will have opportunities to teach in both HSC and IB Diploma courses. We have strong elective numbers in Languages, which have steadily increased over the past few years. If you are interested in helping to shape and grow our Latin language program at Newington into the future, please be in touch.

Further details about this position can be obtained by contacting Ms Marnie Foster, Head of Languages at mfoster@newington.nsw.edu.au or (02) 9588 9444

About the College

Newington College is a school bustling with opportunity and rigour. We aim to teach students to think critically, stretch their learning and approach life with curiosity, kindness and open-mindedness, and that also applies to everyone who works here – from the teachers and grounds staff to the finance and admissions teams.

Founded in 1863 by the Uniting Church, the College has more than two thousand students across four vibrant campuses from our Early Learning Centre through to Year 12. In 2026, Newington will enter an exciting new phase as the College transitions to co-education starting with Kindergarten and Grade Five, becoming fully co-educational by 2033. Our students will enter a world that will require them to walk and work alongside all genders collaboratively, respectfully and empathetically as colleagues, employers, employees, partners, parents and friends. We want to ensure the College remains a vibrant, contemporary institution, in step with the society it is part of.

If our approach appeals to you – and if you think you could help us achieve our goals – we’d like to hear from you.
