The team
The Corporate Legal Services team within ASIC's Legal Services Group is responsible for advising the Commission and ASIC's operational and stakeholder teams about legislation and policies that apply to ASIC's governance, functions and operations including the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001 (ASIC Act), the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act), the Fair Work Act 2009 and the Legal Services Directions 2017. The Corporate Legal Services team is also responsible for the conduct of litigation brought against ASIC.

The role
In this role you will contribute to legal advice to the Commission, the Chair and senior management of ASIC on a broad range of matters affecting the governance and operations of ASIC.
This might include advising on the conduct of claims and litigation against ASIC, assessing legislative changes and other developing and novel issues, advising on internal policies, inter agency agreements and information-sharing arrangements.
You'll contribute to projects relating to ASIC's compliance obligations such as the Conflicts and Trading Policies and provide advice and assistance with ASIC's compliance and reporting obligations, including under the Legal Services Directions and PGPA Act.

About you
We are looking for someone with experience as a lawyer, which may have been gained in a government department, government agency or a legal firm.
You'll need strong legal advice writing and verbal communication skills, along with organisational and time management skills and the ability to work to meet deadlines while managing several competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
A knowledge and understanding of the law, practice and policy relating to the Corporations Act, ASIC Act, related financial services legislation, PGPA Act, Legal Services Directions and other relevant legislation and policies would be of value.
