As a valued member of an eight-person team, you will craft planned burn programs, conduct burns, aid in regional programs such as aerial burning and join the frontline during bushfire responses. Your contributions don't stop there, you'll work alongside First Nations partners, infusing cultural burning practices into fire management on Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal Land (CYPAL) National Parks.We need someone who can ignite their high-level performance independently but also complement our team's strength. You'll find working in the outdoors, sometimes under strenuous conditions, requires a robust level of fitness, making those muscles just as essential as your sharp mind!Attention to detail and strong communication abilities are crucial, as well as proficiency, or the quick uptake, in using technologies such as GPS and radio systems. Technical savvy and fostering robust relationships are part of your fire kit, where you'll coordinate on various levels with agency partners and stakeholders.Your days aren't bound by the clock - flexibility is vital, with light aircraft flights and out-of-hours work, including possible weekends, on the agenda. Our Rangers echo the commitment of Queensland's heart by maintaining the accessibility, protection, and appreciation of our rich natural heritage.Based in Cairns, this role will take you beyond city limits, requiring travel to remote locations and overnight stays. Extended trips across Queensland mean your fire management prowess can shine across vast landscapes.You'll supervise work groups, aiding in the preparation of annual programs and take the lead on specific park management projects. Your role expands from fieldwork to administration, covering a range of responsibilities, including planning, monitoring, reporting, and maintenance of records within budgetary confines.As the voice of the Parks, you'll engage with visitors, providing crucial education and enforcement when required.
