About the Role
Our plant-based milk products are highly sought after within the café and food services industry, and we are experiencing rapid growth. We are seeking a person with a science degree or equivalent, along with experience in the café field or studies within this area to join our R&D team. This role involves developing new and innovative products for Sanitarium according to project briefs, as well as providing support for our existing product line.

About the Role
Our plant-based milk products are highly sought after within the café and food services industry, and we are experiencing rapid growth. We are seeking a person with a science degree or equivalent, along with experience in the café field or studies within this area to join our R&D team. This role involves developing new and innovative products for Sanitarium according to project briefs, as well as providing support for our existing product line.
- Deliver to agreed project objectives in accordance with project brief, on time and within budget applying basic problem solving and using safe work procedures and approved NPD processes.
- Manage the food technical related aspects of allocated strategic and tactical development projects, and actively contribute to allocated project teams.
- Develop and maintain accurate Technical Specifications and related documentation for finished product and materials.
- Ensure all products are designed to the appropriate integrity and stability to perform adequately throughout the product life cycle and comply with relevant legal and food standards. (e.g. Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code).
- Design, conduct and report on experiments and factory trials.
- Proactively identify, evaluate, and recommend opportunities for product and raw material innovation, cost and quality improvements for existing and new Sanitarium operations and products.
- Operate pilot plant equipment after training and sign-off has taken place.
- Occasional working out of standard hours and various sites to support project needs.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives.
- A bachelor’s degree in food technology or related science area.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in Research & Development in the food industry.
- Understanding of food regulations, legislation, and food safety.
- Understanding of HACCP as applies to food production.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team as required.
- Understanding of WHS and EEO in the workplace.
- Driver’s license.
- Familiarity with plant-based milks is desirable.
