About the role:
The Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Service (AMIHS) Registered Midwife role is based out of Muswellbrook Hospital and provides service to women within the Muswellbrook, Singleton, Scone and surrounding communities in the Hunter Valley Sector. The Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Service (AMIHS) Registered Midwife will work in partnership with Aboriginal women and families using a women centred approach to give them the necessary cultural support, care and advice during pregnancy and the postpartum period. This includes being able to identify complications and seek timely referral or consultation to the appropriate health care provider.
The Registered Midwife will be working with an AHW (Aboriginal Health Worker) providing Antenatal and Postnatal care to Indigenous women and families. This care begins at booking in and extends into the postnatal period up to 8 weeks. You will be liaising with local community services, Child and Family Health and other health professionals.
You will be supported by the Maternity Unit Manager at Muswellbrook Hospital and the Health Services Manager who is also based at Muswellbrook Hospital. The unit is also supported by a Clinical Midwifery Educator (CME) who provides education opportunities to remain up to date with Professional Education requirements.

Requirements:
Our successful candidate will possess the following:
- Current registration as a Registered Midwife with AHPRA.
About you:
- You will have the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, prioritise own workload, and accept accountability/responsibility for your own actions within the midwifery profession.
- You will also have recent, broad clinical experience in midwifery, including provision of antenatal and postnatal care and a demonstrated understanding of the principles of primary health care.
- You will have a high level oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to use and keep up to date client files in e Maternity; i PM, and Midwifery files (kept in Maternity).
Additional information:
- An eligibility list will be created for future permanent full or part time and temporary full or part time vacancies.
- Job share / part time arrangements will be considered.
- Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week commencing Monday 28th October 2024.
- This position is full time; however, part time/job share arrangements may also be considered.
