Research Coordinator - Philanthropy Team

The Garvan Research Foundation was founded in 1981 and is the fundraising and marketing arm of the Institute, raising awareness and vital funds from individuals, trusts and foundations and corporate and community groups.
The Foundation’s income has grown from a fundraising base of $110,000 in its first year to more than $48 million in 2021 – approximately half of the Institute’s total income. The re-markable success of the Foundation’s activities is having a catalytic impact on our researchers’ ability to make scientific contributions that will ultimately lead to earlier diagnosis, better treatments and prevention or cure of a range of diseases.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Prospect Research Coordinator is a vital role within the of the Philanthropy Team at the Garvan Research Foundation (GRF), supporting the Prospect Research & Strategic Projects Lead. This position contributes to Major Gifts, Trusts & Foundations, and Corporate acquisition strategies through in-depth prospect research and effective prospect management. By identifying, researching and analysing prospective donors, it provides valuable insights for cultivation and solicitation. Through detailed data analysis and tracking trends in medical research philanthropy, this role will ensure frontline fundraisers have the necessary information to develop tailored strategies for prospective donors.
Salary: Up to $70,000 + 11.5% super + salary packaging
Employment Type: Full time permanent

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Research and insights development:
  • Develop and implement strategies for identifying potential major donors, including individuals, corporations, foundations and trusts;
  • Conduct comprehensive research to evaluate a prospective donors’ financial capacity, philanthropic interests, giving history and affiliations, while identifying potential connections to the organisation for targeted engagement strategies;
  • Prepare accurate, timely prospect information and profiles, tracking the development process and providing insights to support the Philanthropy Teams’ fundraising and acquisition activities.
Data management and collaboration:
  • Oversee the collection, storage and use of donor-related data, optimising the prospect pipeline through regular reviews;
  • Track and maintain a high level of accuracy, confidentiality and security in all data and reports to support acquisition and fundraising efforts;
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across the Garvan Research Foundation, ensuring effective communication and coordination;
  • Develop reports that track the progress of a prospect’s journey, delivering actionable insights to your people leader and relevant fundraisers.
Contribute to the development and delivery of a defined schedule of prospect and acquisition events, including but not limited to:
  • Preparation of guest lists and management of event RSVPs;
  • Facilitation of guest research prior to the event;
  • Provide day-of event support to the Events and Office Senior Coordinator;
  • Document and evaluate event outcomes and expenditure.
Provide administrative and day-to-day support to the Philanthropy Team and Foundation Leadership for potential high-value donor engagement requirements such as:
  • Booking meeting rooms and coordinating calendar appointments;
  • Providing meeting and tour support, including facilitating tea and coffee orders;
  • Attend all major donor events and help with required tasks on the night;
  • Handle ad-hoc requests for assistance from the Philanthropy Team and GRF Leadership; occasionally taking minutes during meetings, coordinating follow-up actions, and assisting with preparation of meeting agendas and presentations as needed.
ABOUT YOU
  • High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail, with the ability to gather and report on large amounts of information in a timely and articulate manner;
  • Tertiary qualifications or relevant work experience in a fundraising or not-for-profit environment a bonus but not a requirement;
  • Familiarity with relational databases (Raiser's Edge desired but not essential), and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook);
  • An understanding of high-net-worth populations, financial industry sectors and philanthropy;
  • Can work effectively and independently with minimum supervision;
  • Demonstrates good judgement in decision making and high level of professionalism;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (able to engage with internal/external stakeholders and high net worth individuals);
  • Able to be flexible with time and prioritise urgent tasks accordingly;
  • A flexible thinker that can modify their position depending on the circumstances.
