What is the role?
The Team Leader Industrial Relations role is one of two positions who are jointly responsible for leading the AFP Industrial Relations team to deliver specialist people-related services.
The Industrial Relations team plays a key role in supporting the AFP People Services branch to create and maintain a positive, fair and productive workplace by effectively partnering with stakeholders to support best-practice adherence to the AFP employment frameworks. Key deliverables of the team include:
Providing advice and recommendations to business areas, employees and their representatives on complex industrial matters.
Managing internal disputes raised under the AFP relevant Enterprise Agreements.
Representing the AFP on employment related external disputation.
Monitoring changes in the employment legislation landscape and working with stakeholders to implement and educate on relevant changes.
Working with unions to prevent and resolve workplace issues and disputes.
As a Team Leader you also play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?
Oversee the activities of the team to ensure the successful and professional delivery of advice team in a fast paced, complex operating environment, and supporting the team to respond accordingly to changes in priorities.
Foster a supportive team environment focusing on well-being and achieving positive outcomes in a hybrid working environment.
Develop team's capabilities through coaching, constructive feedback and encouragement.
Manage employee/senior executive expectations and negotiating outcomes and timeframes where there is a need to do so, effectively ensuring the workload is manageable and the team remains focused on the key priorities.
Build and maintaining productive and effective partnerships with other HR Leaders to support an integrated and cohesive HR service to our partners.
Apply knowledge of relevant legislative, policy, regulation and employment frameworks, and encouraging conformance to these requirements.
Produce concise written work, displaying highly effective listening skills, and sharing information with others to develop cooperation and collaboration.
Essential Requirements
You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Demonstrated prior experience (minimum 2 years) in an industrial relations/workplace relations role, with a strong ability to interpret and apply an employment framework.
Demonstrated prior experience leading a team to deliver results in a fast paced, complex operating environment.

This role is located in Canberra and applicants are expected to be based in the ACT region.
