  • Parramatta, other locations will be considered, in office presence required

About the Building Commission NSW

The new Building Commission NSW has been established after the NSW Government recognised the substantial progress made by Fair Trading and the Office of the Building Commissioner in delivering once-in-a-generation reforms of the building and construction industry. The new commission will not only be the industry regulator, but also a collaborator with consumers and industry to ensure standards, capabilities, capacity, and resilience continue to be lifted across the sector to deliver quality homes and meet the state’s housing targets.

About the team – Advanced Analytics

The Advanced Analytics team manages some of Australia's largest data assets, providing valuable insights and support to our highly skilled intelligence analysts. Our team is at the forefront of data analytics-led risk-based regulation, using cutting-edge techniques and technologies to extract meaningful information from vast amounts of data.

Responsibilities include:

  • Understand Licensing Data Structures: Analyse and comprehend the structure of licensing data to ensure its accurate utilisation.
  • Data Analysis: Perform in-depth analysis of licensing data to identify trends, anomalies, and insights relevant to regulatory activities.
  • Develop Migration Plans: Formulate and implement effective migration strategies for transitioning data between systems or platforms while maintaining data integrity.
  • Establish Data Pipelines: Build scalable data pipelines to automate extraction from internal and external sources, ensuring smooth data integration.
  • Collaborate Across Functions: Work with stakeholders across the organisation to understand data requirements and deliver appropriate solutions.
  • Ensure Data Quality and Governance: Implement data quality and governance practices to maintain compliance with data protection regulations.

Key challenges:

  • Exploring and Analysing Licensing Data: Navigating the complexities of licensing data structures to extract meaningful insights and inform regulatory strategies.
  • Regulatory Dynamics: Staying up to date with changes in regulatory frameworks and effectively applying data analytics within the building and construction industry.
  • Diverse Data Integration: Integrating various internal and external data sources with differing formats and standards into a cohesive and functional system.
  • Data Security and Privacy: Safeguarding sensitive data while adapting to evolving cybersecurity threats and maintaining compliance with data protection laws.
  • Effective Collaboration: Translating technical solutions into business outcomes through clear communication and collaboration with different organisational functions.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Specialised Regulatory Data Knowledge: Deep understanding of government licensing data, building and construction data, corporate conduct data, and home building insurance data, with the ability to utilise these datasets for risk rating and regulatory purposes.
  • Data Analytics Experience: Proven experience in applying data analytics to solve complex challenges, particularly within regulatory environments like the building and construction industry.
  • Data Integration Skills: Expertise in integrating diverse data sets into cohesive analytics platforms, ensuring data quality, accessibility, and usability for stakeholders.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities: Exceptional ability to analyse complex data, identify trends and insights, and develop actionable recommendations to address regulatory challenges.
