Exciting opportunity for a Senior Legal Counsel – Asia (Australia based) to the join the Corporate and Institutional Bank (CIB) Legal team working in a fast paced and regulated international environment. This role would suit a lawyer with experience in corporate law and financial regulation in Asia.

The CIB Legal team works closely with the CIB business, supporting the execution of CIB’s strategy, while pro-actively managing legal risk within a changing regulatory environment.
You will be responsible for providing legal support to NAB's branches in Asia (Singapore, Tokyo and Shanghai) and you will advise on a broad range of legal issues related to corporate law and governance, financial regulation and licensing, contract law, information security and data privacy law in the region.
In this Senior Legal Counsel role, you will:

Deliver accurate, commercially relevant, timely, and strategic legal advice on complex areas of the law (both contentious and non-contentious) often on a cross-border basis.
Advise on and facilitate a variety of transactions and projects at a strategic level, including, where appropriate, reviewing legal documentation to ensure legal compliance, manage legal risks and reduce the potential for legal claims.
Engage, monitor and supervise external legal advisers, manage external and internal legal adviser relationships, and facilitate communication between external legal advisers with internal NAB stakeholders.
Identify process improvements/efficiencies, evaluate performance and contain/monitor legal costs.
Maintain sound understanding of current legal developments affecting the NAB business, particularly in relation to laws and regulations impacting businesses in the Asia region.

What you’ll bring:
You are an experienced lawyer who thrives on legal excellence and professionalism in actively managing legal risk in line with commercial and strategic priorities.

At least 10 years PQE as a lawyer at a firm or in-house
Relevant tertiary qualification and admission to legal practice in Australia.
Experience must include working for businesses based in Asia.
Effective stakeholder engagement skills and cultural awareness, with a collaborative and partnering approach.
A pro-active, agile and growth mindset with strong problem-solving and influencing skills.
