We are looking for a passionate professional to join our Restricted Collections & Repatriation team in First Nations Division.

You will be paid a competitive annual salary $106,025 - $117,363, plus employer's contribution to superannuation (currently 11.5%) and annual leave loading.
About you
Knowledge & Experience
  • Application of best practice models for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business in museums and/or archives, and Aboriginal cultural heritage management and cultural protocols.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of museum practices with respect to restricted collection documentation, research, storage, and conservation considerations. Experience in the handling, packing, transport, and storage of First Nations restricted collections is desirable.
  • Experience in high quality research and application of culturally appropriate research practices, cultural awareness, and terminology in order to perform in processes that are culturally aware and appropriate. Capacity to embed Indigenous Cultural & Intellectual Property (ICIP) into work practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in contemporary collection management practices, including the use of databases such as KE EMu.
  • A high level of organisational skills and an understanding of financial, technological, procurement, contract, and project management requirements.
  • Proven record in community consultation, especially with First Nations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) communities. Experience with Pasifika communities is desirable.
  • Holds a current full NSW Driver’s Licence. The role holder must be prepared to travel between the AM’s various sites which holds its First Nations Restricted Collections, and to external stakeholders as needed to support the work of the AM’s Repatriation Program, especially to First Nations communities for repatriation events.

Essential requirements
  • Appropriate approved tertiary qualifications in a relevant subject area, and relevant equivalent professional practice and research experience, preferably including postgraduate level of study in research.
  • Male identification – Male gender is a genuine occupational qualification for this role and is authorised under ss 31(1) and (3) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. The Australian Museum’s Restricted Collections includes male-related objects, requiring the role holder to view and facilitate the handling, access, photography, care, repatriations negotiations and related tasks for male gendered Restricted Collections objects. Note: there are already relevant female identifying staff members to accommodate female-related objects.
