About the opportunity
Are you currently enrolled in and studying a degree qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline and are ready to apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges in a dynamic and supportive environment? If so, we would love to hear from you.
Cessnock City Council is looking for an enthusiastic and driven student to join our highly knowledgeable Strategic Planning team in a two-year undergraduate position. This position will see you engage in designing the built environment, focusing on minimising land use conflicts through innovative spatial planning and design. You'll play a key part in promoting biodiversity and environmental as well as contributing to traffic and transport planning, and flood and bushfire risk management. Additionally you'll assist with heritage conservation efforts, support facility and infrastructure funding initiatives, and interpret and apply relevant legislation.
About you
To be successful in this position, you must:
  • Be enrolled in and currently studying a degree in Town Planning or relevant discipline heading into your third or fourth year in 2025;
  • Have successfully completed a minimum of two (2) years full-time study, or equivalent, in the above mentioned degree and satisfactory achievement in current undergraduate studies;
  • Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to prioritise own workload and exercise initiative and innovation;
  • Demonstrated sound research and analytical skills;
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of Microsoft Office and other software/database programs relevant to the position; and
  • Current class C drivers licence.

Remuneration
Salary as per the Local Government (State) Award plus 11.5% superannuation
