Support Worker for Short-Term Accommodation (STA)
Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and skilled support worker to provide occasional care during a Short-Term Accommodation (STA) to Uluru and surrounding areas. The STA is scheduled for December 10th to December 20th, 2024, and will include a mix of accessible activities and rest days. The role involves supporting a participant with mobility and care needs for six designated days during the STA to ensure comfort, safety, and enjoyment.
The support worker will will provide additional support throughout the trip. The role focuses on providing respite care, assisting with activities, and ensuring the participant’s physical and emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities:

• Provide support for up to 4 hours per day on 6 activity days during the STA, as scheduled with the participant.
• Assist with mobility, including walking support and use of mobility aids such as a wheelie walker or cane.
• Facilitate participation in planned activities in Uluru and Alice Springs, while ensuring rest breaks are included.
• Adapt to the participant’s physical needs and manage fatigue through pacing and supportive care.
• Avoid sensory triggers, such as strong scents and allergens, to maintain the participant’s comfort.
• Offer light assistance with daily tasks as needed.
• Maintain clear, respectful communication with the participant while ensuring privacy and dignity.

Payment and Benefits:

• Employees of National Disability Care (NDC):
• Hourly rate: $38.08 per hour, plus STA allowance on the days worked.
• Activities covered by the organization.
• Food and Food Allowance for workers is not provided.

• Independent Contractors:
• Paid only the hourly rate and reimbursed for activities.
• No STA allowance or additional benefits provided.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

• Experience as a disability or support worker, preferably in an NDIS-funded setting.
• Knowledge of mobility challenges and chronic medical conditions.
• Sensitivity to mental health needs, including managing triggers and promoting a calming environment.
• Familiarity with accessible accommodations and activities in rural and remote areas like Uluru and Alice Springs.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• NDIS Worker Screening Check or Yellow Card.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to provide culturally appropriate, person-centered care.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience supporting individuals during travel or STAs.
• Knowledge of sensory sensitivities and how to manage environmental factors effectively.
• Experience pacing activities for individuals with chronic pain or fatigue.
