Wildlife Currumbin Sanctuary
Wildlife Vet
Currumbin
FULL TIME & PART TIME
October 15, 2024
Since its creation in 1989, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital has grown to be one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world, now treating over 14,000 animals every year. In addition, the hospital provides veterinary care to the Sanctuary captive animal collection and conducts world-leading research and conservation projects, often working collaboratively with esteemed education and government partners.
The hospital is located within the grounds of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, one of 14 properties managed by National Trust of Australia Queensland (NTAQ). NTAQ is a membership-based environmental organisation and registered charity that works to conserve and advance our natural and cultural heritage for future generations.
To support the Wildlife Hospital operations, we have opportunity for a Permanent Part Time Veterinarian, to join our highly respected Wildlife Hospital Team that comprises a team of 9 veterinarians and 29 vet nurses, whilst working on their own caseload and work towards our Mission and Vision to be leader in conservation and heritage
About the Role
The Wildlife Hospital is dedicated to providing the highest level of care to our patients. We are equipped with advanced technologies, including flexible and rigid endoscopy, digital radiography, multiple ultrasounds, and a diagnostic lab. In our dynamic and fast-paced environment, our dedicated veterinarians deliver exceptional veterinary care to Australian wildlife, engaging in both clinical and surgical duties according to their level of experience.
As a knowledgeable Veterinarian, you will perform laboratory diagnostic procedures, including sample collection and storage, and calculate, prepare, and administer medications, including anaesthetics. You will also handle administrative responsibilities, such as maintaining clinical treatment files and laboratory diagnostic test results.
With your confidence in animal handling, you will utilise safe capture and restraint techniques for both native and exotic species. You will collaborate with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers to ensure the care and welfare of the animals at our clinic. We offer flexible shift times that can be adjusted to meet the needs of the right candidate.
As a broader member of NTAQ, you will embody our Mission and Values and help convey our key messages. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to assist in research projects that align with our Mission.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will hold a Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent recognised qualification able to be registered in Queensland, and have prior experience the Veterinary industry, working with wildlife and exotic species. Other key skills and qualifications we are looking for include:
- Strong understanding, knowledge and practical veterinary skills of zoo, exotic & native wildlife species
- You will be an energised, diplomatic, highly capable, and personable individual with a genuine interest and passion for wildlife.
- Can demonstrate a highly flexible, cooperative, and positive attitude.
- Liaise and communicate in a friendly and effective manner with all key contacts including internal department staff, volunteers, and associated veterinary contacts.
What we can offer
Just as our charter is to protect, conserve, and celebrate the Environmental, Built and Cultural heritage of our State â we also are committed to ensuring our Team Members are protected, taken care of and of course celebrated! We offer current and future team members:
