The Austrian Archaeological Institute (Oe AI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (Oe AW), the largest non-
university establishment for fundamental research in Austria, is offering a

POSTDOC POSITION (F/M/X)
(part-time, 20 hours per week)

for a duration of 10 months in the research project: “Does material matter?“, Department of Historical
Archaeology.

Your tasks

• Compilation of written and pictorial sources on the subject of Late-Antique-Early Byzantine

jewellery in form of a catalogue

• Collection of comparable object groups of jewellery from various excavations sites with find

context, primarily in Asia Minor

Your profile

• A completed Ph D in Classical Archaeology with the specification of the Late Antique-Early

Byzantine period

• Experience with material culture, especially small finds and the involved methodologies

• Fluent German and English; reading skills in French, Italian and Turkish; additional relevant

active languages skills are appreciated

• A pronounced interest in interdisciplinary research topics in the fields of material evidence in

Late Antique-Early Byzantine times, integrating diverse primary sources

• A publication history with focus on Late Antique Studies

• IT skills beyond the typical requirements (working with excel-files) are welcome

• A willingness to collaborate across and beyond disciplines and the ability to work as part of a

team
