Position Overview
As a Staff AI Compiler Engineer, you will be at the forefront of Axelera AI’s Neural Network compiler development. You’ll be responsible for driving the technical direction, solving complex, open-ended problems, and setting priorities for high-impact projects. Your work will shape Axelera AI’s software systems and extend beyond your immediate team, with a focus on delivering scalable, flexible solutions to advance our AI platform.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, architecture, and hands-on development of Axelera AI’s Neural Network compiler and SDK.
  

• Drive innovation by designing compiler optimizations, focusing on hardware-aware transformations for In-Memory Computing.
  

• Execute and technically guide complex projects to ensure our compiler supports workloads beyond classical CNNs (e.g. generative AI) and upcoming generations of our heterogeneous compute platform.
  

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on technical strategy, optimizing the Axelera software stack for scalability and performance.
  

• Oversee holistically our compilation pipeline and proactively propose changes to ensure best-in-class functional coverage, performance and accuracy.
  

• Ensure best practices in the team, especially regarding testing methodologies for compilers.
  

• Mentor and guide junior and senior engineers, modeling a standard of excellence and leadership within the team, thereby being a valuable partner to your manager and peers.
  

Qualifications:

• Master’s or Ph D in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years focused on Deep Learning and AI systems.
  

• Strong experience in AI compiler development, e.g. in some of these topics: Workload partitioning for heterogeneous platforms, scheduling and tiling optimizations, managing a multi-level memory hierarchy, synchronization.
  

• Background in computer architecture with related knowledge of heterogeneous compute systems.
  

• Familiarity with open-source compiler frameworks such as TVM, MLIR, or Glow.
  

• Experience in neural network quantization techniques is a plus.
  

• Proficiency in Py Torch, with a good understanding of deep learning frameworks is a plus.
  

• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a high sense of ownership and the ability to drive technical solutions that impact the broader organization.
  

• Proven to be a team player favoring collaborative decision making over building silos.
  

• Proficiency in C++ and Python.
  

Location
We offer a flexible working arrangement, with options to:

• Work from one of our Axelera AI offices (Leuven in Belgium, Amsterdam and Eindhoven in the Netherlands, Zurich in Switzerland, Florence and Milan in Italy, or Bristol in the United Kingdom).
  

• Work fully remotely from any European country (including the UK) you are currently based in.
  

• Relocate and work from Amsterdam or Eindhoven (Netherlands) or Florence (Italy).
