About Us:
DARO is a technology social enterprise based in Montreal, Canada, that builds tools and services for the nonprofit sector. We focus on using and generating open and public data to help funders and nonprofits inform their programs and strategies. We also apply our unique expertise to systems-level issues and projects related to data and information in the nonprofit sector.
DARO works with the global generosity movement and independent nonprofit organisation Giving Tuesday to maintain the Giving Tuesday Data Commons, which provides to the social sector what the commercial sector has long benefitted from: big data to drive better decision-making, build a more resilient social sector, and accelerate equitable social innovation. With hundreds of collaborators and 50 global data labs, the Data Commons is the largest philanthropic data collaborative effort in the social sector and is the only initiative focused on collecting and analysing individual giving behaviour of all types.
In pursuit of the goals and expansion of the Data Commons, DARO manages staff, projects, and ongoing functions for the Giving Tuesday Data Commons with dedicated staff embedded in Giving Tuesday in those capacities in cross-functional roles. This role is one of these positions - managed by DARO but seconded to and embedded in Giving Tuesday’s Data Team.
About our Team & Work:
We are a small, dynamic group, with members from academic, librarianship, humanitarian, and industrial backgrounds. We take the lead on internal information storage, design processes to streamline the work of other Giving Tuesday staff, and we build outward-facing tools to make our data and our knowledge readily available to a variety of users across the social sector.We work with global foundations, active nonprofit data collaboratives, and initiatives trying to solve collective information and data sharing problems. You will be a key player in maintaining these relationships through providing expertise in data use and technology solutions for our consulting services.
Working with our partners, you will act as the resource person on diverse projects related to data and generosity. You will develop strategies and solutions to address those needs, and coordinate and lead the implementation of those strategies.
About the Role: Your areas of knowledge, expertise, or interest should include a mix of:

Responsibilities
Project Management, Delivery, and Consulting
- Ensure project management excellence across a broad portfolio of data infrastructure, research & analytics, and other technology projects
- Convert senior leadership strategy and intent into action plans through the development of project plans, project monitoring systems, and resource tracking systems
- Develop and manage project plans with the foresight that they will grow, shift and evolve on a day-to-day basis
- Provide business analysis and stay a step ahead of the problems that arise, adapting plans as needs and priorities change
- Practise excellent client management to maintain positive and strategically-oriented relationships

Lead and iterate on processes and governance to support the operations of the Data Commons
- Articulate and communicate project objectives, outcomes, and relevance to organisational strategy
- Ensure processes and for allocating project resources and monitoring activities are clear, efficient, and up-to-date
- Liaise with both DARO and Giving Tuesday Operations teams to ensure alignment resourcing needs & solutions
- Support the creation of content and deliverable components as needed
- Maintain a positive and productive relationship with partnering project staff and coordinate their efforts
- Take responsibility for the direction of the team, continuously re-prioritizing as context changes
- Support strategy development and adjustment through communication with the Giving Tuesday Data Commons leadership team
- Develop and manage systems to track resource allocation across a broad portfolio of projects and provide regular high-level budget updates to senior leadership
- Support the contracting process - managing agreements with consultants, Saa S’s, and more
- Support partnership development project delivery by identifying additional areas for support/new projects
- Lead important projects and initiatives that help our partners and provide value to the sector
- Stay up to date on trends in the sector, to apply them in our projects as needed
This position reports to the Director of Projects, and in their absence, to Giving Tuesday Data Commons’ Chief Data Officer.
Location & Work Hours
This position is open to candidates from across the Americas. We are looking for someone who is available to work from 9-5 EST.
This is a full-time position.
Compensation
Our compensation is competitive and tailored to align with cost-of-living differences across various regions across North & South America. We look forward to meeting candidates from diverse backgrounds who can bring unique perspectives to our team!
For applicants in Brazil: our total annual compensation is 250,000 BRL to 300,000 BRL.
Additional information
This is a maternity leave coverage position beginning mid-February, 2025, and ending approximately 12 months later, in March 2026. This role is initially a temporary position for the duration of the maternity leave; however, there is a possibility of transitioning to a full-time, permanent role at the end of this period, based on performance and organisational needs.
