SALARY RANGE: $25 to $35 hourly rate (based on 35 hours a week)

Position Summary
The Communications Coordinator role is the Nation’s operational communications lead, directly supporting the Communications Manager in achieving the K’ómoks First Nation’s overall goal of building trust and creating community connection within the Nation, and establishing and maintaining a positive public image of the Nation. The role will aid across many internal and external communication needs, including event support, media relations, promotional plans, and publication coordination, prioritizing outcomes guided by our organizational strategic plan goals.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinating and executing day-to-day internal K’ómoks communications, including regular community Facebook posts, weekly email blasts, newsletters, brochures, reports, and website updates.
· Coordinating communications projects (following up with designers, photographers, videographers, printers, etc.)
· Researching communications materials for internal and external audiences
· Providing formatting and writing support for staff as necessary
- Community engagement, including responding to community issues and concerns as related to organizational communications activities
- Communications support for K’ómoks events and community meetings
- Social Media lead, posting and managing content across platforms, including comment monitoring
- Communications administration, including:
· Developing and implementing an annual work plan
· Performing other related communications duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· High level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish working relationships with staff, Council, and a variety of governments, groups, knowledge keepers and/or Elders, and other stakeholders
· Ability to display tact, respect, and diplomacy
· Sound judgment and decision-making
· Ability to embrace change and navigate and ambiguity
· Cultural sensitivity and awareness withthorough knowledge of the current First Nations governance landscape in BC and knowledge of relevant socio-historical events relevant to First Nations in Canada
· Communications skills:
· Drive communications projects, take initiative on deliverables and feel a high accountability for the work
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills
· Collaborate well in a team environment
· Digital skills:
· Comfortable with digital media, including social media management, Canva design, Mailchimp campaign management, and Word Press web updates
· Literate in Microsoft Office; proficient with Word and Excel
Education and Experience:
· Combination of education and/or 2 to 4 years of working experience in communications, marketing, or related field
· Experience working in and with the Indigenous community preferred
· Preference given to candidates with a related degree and/or diploma
Other:
· Willing to participate in personal and professional development
