WHAT YOU WILL DO
As the Director of Air Service Development, you will be at the forefront of shaping the future of our air services and cargo operations. In this dynamic role, you"ll identify and cultivate new airline routes and services, turning innovative ideas into tangible results. Your strategic vision will drive the development of new market opportunities, while your negotiation skills will build strong partnerships with key airline carriers. You"ll leverage market trends and passenger data to craft and execute compelling strategies that enhance our service network. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Identify and drive strategies that will ensure YYC is proactive in establishing air services to meet the needs of our partners and catchment area.
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for air service development inclusive of key milestones over the 1 to 5-year period.
- Responsible for identifying and pursuing air cargo and logistics development opportunities.
- Recommend strategies that will ensure the Airport Authority is proactive in establishing an international air cargo and logistics platform at the airport.
- Research and analyze market trends, passenger data, and industry developments to identify potential new routes and services. Develop strategic plans to attract and retain airline carriers.
- Keep abreast of all air cargo related activity that will impact the competitiveness and success of the cargo program at the airport.
- Engage with airline carriers and other stakeholders to negotiate service agreements and foster strong partnerships. Represent the airport in meetings, conferences, and industry events.
- Create and execute strategies to enhance air service offerings, including route expansions and new service introductions. Oversee the implementation of new services and monitor their performance.
- Building, leading and developing a high performing team through effective performance management, succession planning, training and modelling our corporate culture and values.
- Partner with travel and tourism organizations at the local, provincial and federal level to align their investments to existing and future markets with potential.
- Utilize data and analytics to track the performance of existing routes, assess market demand, and adjust strategies as needed. Prepare reports and presentations for airport management and stakeholders.
- Work closely with airport operations, marketing, and other departments to ensure seamless integration of new services and effective communication of changes to stakeholders.
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8-10 years’ experience with aviation, transportation industry or business development.
- Excellent analytical skills, with proven ability in identifying market trends, manipulating and synthesizing market data.
- Ability to find/develop unique insights from airline and passenger data.
- Flexibility to travel extensively as required.
- A strong strategic thinker with experience providing leading-edge thinking in airport operations.
- Proven sales experience including lead generation, business case development and negotiation.
- Proven experience in developing effective interpersonal relationships both internal and external to the organization.
- Strong technical knowledge of airport and airline business trends and the competitive environment.
- Consensus builder – someone who influences others in a collaborative and productive manner while leading change and taking calculated risks.
- Strong track record building effective teams and fostering a culture of engagement.
- Ability to influence and lead innovation and change throughout the department, as well as prioritize and communicate key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals.
- Ability to fluently speak a second language is considered an asset.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC).
- This role is eligible for our hybrid work model with a combination of in-office and remote work.
