What You Will Be Doing, as a Cross Dock Lead:
As a Cross Dock Lead, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the flow of inbound goods and ensuring timely and accurate processing of all outbound activities relating to the Cross Dock. Your primary responsibility will be to analyze and manage the operational activities involving the planning and management of orders, routing, and efficient loading practices.
This role requires a resourceful and self-directed individual with a can-do attitude who possesses both strong technical and operational abilities. You will interact with all levels of the business, including 3rd party business partners, transportation providers, and clients. Your ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail will be crucial for success in this position.
Reporting Relationships
This role reports directly to the Operations Supervisor and works closely with various teams including administrative staff and third-party carrier partners.
Key Accountabilities
1. Coordinate day-to-day cross dock operational activities by:
· Monitoring unloading, loading, and dispatching of road and rail services.
· Troubleshooting problems and implementing solutions to prevent repeat occurrences.
· Monitoring efficient and accurate loading as well as enforcing proper cube utilization.
· Monitoring and reporting on all inbound and outbound activities.
· Engaging the team to ensure correct processes are being followed and specific requirements are being met.
2. Manage operational planning and efficiency by:
· Preparing ad hoc reports for operational planning.
· Analyzing volume trends and planning equipment needs for upcoming shipments.
· Coordinating with various carriers to ensure equipment is lined up.
· Performing load building in the Transportation Control system.
3. Ensure effective communication and collaboration by:
· Acting as a point of contact to inquiries and provide general updates to the business.
· Maintaining positive working relationships with carrier partners.
· Conducting evening handoffs, communicating any important information or loads that need monitoring.
· Updating Google spreadsheets and various trackers used in operations.
What You Should Have, as a Cross Dock Lead:
· Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in a fast-paced dock and warehouse environment.
· Solid understanding of best practices for loading and unloading various types of equipment.
· Strong computer skills in Excel, Google Sheets, Gmail, Word, and Transportation Control Systems.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work with data and organize it to achieve the desired result.
· Must be organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks with varying deadlines.
· Able to work independently and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
· Flexible to work various shifts as needed.
· Fluent in English and demonstrates above-average communication both verbally and in writing.
· Experience in transportation supply chain procedures and practices is considered an asset.
