The Burnaby School District is the fourth largest in BC. The district operates 41 elementary and 8 secondary schools, including a range of district and provincial resource programs. The district supports and provides learning to 25,000 Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) students and to more than 6,000 adult learners through our established Burnaby Community & Continuing Education program. With more than 100 languages spoken in the homes of its students, the district is one of the most culturally diverse in Canada.
Burnaby is seeking school-based leaders with demonstrated success and experience working in culturally diverse communities. In this fundamental leadership role, you will work collaboratively with the district management team in aligning school goals with district direction and working towards the District’s Strategic Plan . Qualifications:
Possess or enrolled in a master’s degree in an area such as Supervision of Instruction, Program & Curriculum Development or Administration or a related field.
Hold a valid B.C. Professional Teaching Certificate.
Recent, successful administrator or teaching experience.
Successful applicants for this position will be able to demonstrate education, experience (work, volunteer, or lived) and professional development noted in the selection criteria.
Responsibilities:
Administrative Management- effectively supervise and support teaching and support staff; oversee the day-to-day operations including communications and human relations in a complex unionized environment; ensure compliance with British Columbia Ministry of Education regulations, policies, and guidelines.
Educational Leadership - work as a member of the district’s educational leadership team; develop and communicate a clear vision for the school's educational goals and objectives.
Instructional Leadership - monitor and assess student progress and implement strategies for improvement as necessary.
Student and Staff Support- provide guidance and support to students, staff, and parents by addressing academic, behavioral, and social concerns; foster a safe, positive, and inclusive school culture that promotes academic excellence, social development, overall student well-being, and a respectful learning and work environment.
Community Engagement- work cooperatively with parents, professionals, and community service agencies; act as a liaison between the school and the community, promote positive relationships and understanding.
Cultural leadership - lead, guide, and embed equity practices and Indigenous perspectives in school goals with the intent to promote diversity, inclusion, and cultural safety.
Professional Development- continuous learning and development of current educational trends, educational methods and research, new teaching methods, and the use of technology to enhance instruction; equity, diversity, inclusion, and Reconciliation; support and encourage professional development opportunities for teachers and support staff.

Principal and Vice-Principal compensation is determined by BC Public Service Employer Association. The salary range for Elementary Vice- Principal is $134,708 to $142,334 along with a comprehensive benefits package including pension. Further details will be discussed at the time of hire.
Selection Criteria – Principals and Vice Principals
Education Qualifications:

Instructional Leadership:
Demonstrated experience in implementing effective instructional and assessment practices.
Strong understanding of curriculum and educational programs.
Implementation of best practices that result in improving instructional programs and/or student outcomes.
Relational Leadership:
Effectively influence culture and relationships to support student development, engagement, and learning.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with school communities (students, staff, parents, and community) to support all learners.
Ability to understand problems and find suitable solutions.
Commitment and proven track record of promoting and implementing equity, diversity, inclusion and reconciliation initiatives within the school, program, or district community.
Professional Development:
Commitment to ongoing relevant professional development for oneself and for other staff.
Continuous professional development related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and Reconciliation.
