Chief Kinosew Awasak Mikwahp (Driftpile Children’s Lodge) is a community-based and family-oriented organization dedicated to providing care, protection, and well-being for all Driftpile Cree Nation children in a preventative manner, promoting healing for children, families, and the community. A coordinated, holistic, and interdisciplinary approach forms the foundation of the Agency, ensuring that the developmental needs of children, youth, and families are met with respect for their cultural identity, customs, traditions, beliefs, and values.

JOB OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Case Work Supervisor, the Generalist collaborates with colleagues to assess the needs of children and families, develops service plans, coordinates services, and advocates for the well-being of children. The Generalist provides temporary support to the Prevention and Post Majority (PM) departments by helping with consulting, and training on prevention and protection principles and practices. They also assist and support staff with complex situations and case management. The Generalist also has their own caseload to oversee where they engage youth and families and identify community supports and services to prevent or reduce risk to child/youth, and overall better outcomes for youth and families.

DUTIES
General
  • Encourage consistency with the vision, mission, and core values of DCN Chief Kinosew Children’s Lodge in service delivery through all departments.
  • Maintain knowledge of Chief Kinosew Awasak Wiyasewewin (Chief Kinosew Children’s Law), Children’s Lodge program policies and practices, including Cree cultural protocols and practices.
  • Maintain knowledge of jurisdictional knowledge of Canadian legislation and Human Rights Tribunal Orders against Canada that affect Child & Family Services for Indigenous families and youth.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships and develop strong, effective teams.
  • Support the application and utilization of community resources and demonstrate the ability to facilitate linkages and wrap-around services (education, health services, personal support services, or any other support) to achieve the desired outcome.
  • Guide and assist the conflict resolution process between family members, families, and service teams where appropriate.
  • Engage in culturally sensitive dialogue with individuals and families to ensure a shared understanding of the assessment, case analyses, and case planning.


Case Load
  • Conduct assessments of children and families to determine safety and risk factors.
  • Identify steps to minimize the effects of the safety and risk factors.
  • Develop case plans tailored to client circumstances as needed.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support in emergencies.
  • Develop and implement case plans to address the needs of children and families.
  • Monitor the progress of children and youth and adjust case plans as necessary.
  • Connect families with community resources in and outside of the community.
  • Creatively engage and work with the family members to assist the family in understanding their situation and develop a path forward together as part of a case plan.
  • Promote collaboration and partnerships with internal and external parties.
  • Practices with considerable independence and is expected to consult with the Case Work Supervisor to resolve the most complex situations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in accordance with agency policies and legal requirements.
  • Prepare written reports, Tribunal documents, and case summaries as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in casework.
  • Minimum Social Work Diploma, equivalencies will be considered.
  • Knowledge of issues and practices of Child and Family Services and the impact on children and families; services to children, family dynamics, and an understanding of the sensitive situations families experience.
  • Experience in the development and participation of case planning with children and families.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software including Excel (spreadsheets and pivot tables), Power Point, database applications, e-mail, team meetings, and video conferencing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet timelines, and work without direct supervision.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean drivers abstract.
  • Fluency in Cree is an asset.
  • Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector and Intervention Record Check upon hire.
