Indigenous Consultation Coordinator

As the Indigenous consultation coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating and participating in the development and implementation of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (port authority) Indigenous Consultation activities. This includes providing coordination and support for Indigenous engagement and consultation and assisting with other related activities as required.
What you do:
- Follow all applicable Indigenous consultation guidelines, policies and procedures as they relate to the port authority, Transport Canada and/or other agencies as required in the preparation and maintenance of records of Indigenous consultation.
- Plan, coordinate, participate and implement events, meetings and workshops for and relating to Indigenous consultation, as required.
- Prepare, disseminate and coordinate submissions, correspondence, records, reports, tracking tables, payment requests and information sharing with Indigenous groups in relation to Indigenous consultation on projects, operations and developments.
- Conduct research into matters relating to Indigenous issues and opportunities that emerge through meetings with Indigenous groups or on initiatives proposed by the port authority.
- Provide general business communication support to the port authority and the department as assigned, including preparing status updates, briefing notes, communication plans, presentations, meeting materials and other documents as required.
- Provide support to project communication activities.
- Perform research in support of department initiatives.
- Write, post and maintain Indigenous consultation and/or engagement records that may include posting project-related Web and intranet materials, as required
- Maintain related Indigenous consultation and engagement tracking databases and spreadsheets; update and expand as necessary.
- Coordinate and participate in promotional or special events, or on project teams, as required.
- You will have completed a university degree in communications, Indigenous Studies, political or social science, or another acceptable discipline from a recognized educational institution, along with a minimum of two years of experience in coordinating Indigenous engagement, research, and/or Indigenous consultation activities.
- You will possess experience with general project communications and/or community engagement would be considered an asset, as would experience working with Indigenous communities whose traditional territories include the lower mainland. Must have proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel.
- You will be a self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy and the ability to liaise effectively and positively with both staff and outside contacts.
- You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and will be a team player with a "customer service" focus.
- You will possess good organizational skills and flexibility to perform multiple tasks are required

Job type: Bargaining Unit, Full-Time, Permanent, Hybrid
Working environment: Normal office conditions with the requirement to work evenings occasionally to attend community events/meetings. Occasional weekend work and travel to external meetings around the Lower Mainland, and as far away as Agassiz and Vancouver Island is also required
