Your Opportunity:
This opportunity is a permanent 1.0 FTE Infection Control Professional (ICP) position, working daily, on-site at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. We are looking for an experienced healthcare professional to join our collaborative and patient safety focused team. The ICP is a patient safety expert with a breadth and depth of expertise in their own field and in the principles of infection prevention and control. The ICP requires knowledge of other disciplines to effectively apply IPC principles in different circumstances across all health care environments. The ICP leads the planning, development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of system wide improvements in infection prevention and serves as a role model to promote the goals of the IPC program within the larger context of the vision and mission of AHS. The ICP facilitates change through interpretation and application of standards and provides best practice recommendations across the spectrum of the organization with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes, and preventing hospital acquired and healthcare associated infections (HAIs). Description:

Required Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, or Public Health. Other clinical health-related baccalaureate or graduate degrees may be considered if curriculum content equivalency can be adequately demonstrated. Minimum of three years' experience in a clinical health care setting, or experience and proficiency in two of the following: 1) patient care practice; 2) microbiology and infectious diseases; or 3) epidemiology and biostatistics. Active or eligible registration with the applicable regulatory college i.e. College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA), etc.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Must be licensed with a governing body (CRNA, ACMLT) or hold an advanced degree in a health-related field. Must have completed an IPAC Canada endorsed Infection Prevention and Control course. Recent experience of at least 3 years in a clinical health care setting or experience and proficiency in two of the following: direct patient care practice; Microbiology and infectious diseases; Epidemiology and biostatistics. Regular travel within the zone is required as well as occasionally outside of the zone. Following 2 years of practice, the ICP is expected to obtain and maintain requirements for Certification in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC).
