Instructor, ESL (Term Part-Time)
Centre for Newcomer Integration
POSITION TYPE: 10 Part-Time, Term Positions Available (anticipated October 14, 2024 up to March 31, 2025)
SALARY: $63,375 - $96,946 per annum*
  • The successful candidate with a Masters or Ph D in a related field will receive an Educational Supplement of $2,850 or $5,700 per annum, respectively, pro-rated on an hourly basis.
POSITION LOCATION: Manitou a bi Bii daziigae (Winnipeg, MB)

ELIGIBILITY LIST: This competition may be used to establish a 6 month eligibility list of qualified candidates for future vacancies.
DUTIES
Reporting to the Chair, the Centre for Newcomer Integration at Red River College Polytechnic is looking for an ESL/EAL (English as a Second Language/English as an Additional Language) or ESP (English for Specific Purposes) instructor. Responsibilities include but are not limited to planning, developing, modifying and continually improving instruction to meet the unique needs of adult learners. Instructors teach blended or online courses which may have an academic and employment focus and may be sector or occupation specific to adults who may be permanent residents or refugees. Instructors will instruct and facilitate by actively engaging students, assessing achievement of learning outcomes, integrating technology to support learning, teaching and communication, supporting student success through coaching and advising, maintaining professional growth, and engaging with the department, the College, the community, and industry, as required. The incumbent is also required to participate in department and College committees and assist in student orientation and graduation activities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL/EAL) from a TESL Canada recognized institution (minimum 120 hours of classroom instruction and a 20-hour practicum)
  • Extensive ESL teaching experience in Canada
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to use conflict resolution techniques to facilitate positive outcomes
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to teach on campus and remotely
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently as well as in small to large group settings
  • Knowledge of lesson planning
  • Knowledge of effective ESL teaching practices
  • Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience developing curriculum and instructing at a post-secondary level
  • Certificate in Teaching for Learning or Adult Education
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA)
  • Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver blended (synchronous and asynchronous) instruction
  • Experience teaching newcomer youth (18-30 years old) and/or occupation-specific language courses (such as internationally educated health professionals, IT professionals or teachers)
  • Experience preparing learners for post-secondary study and/or the Canadian workplace
  • Experience developing and instructing distance delivered courses including on-line
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may be required to work throughout the academic year including the summer months
  • Instructors are required to complete the Teaching for Learning (TFL) in Applied Education program or have previously completed the Certificate in Adult Education (CAE)
  • May be required to work at various RRC Polytech campuses
