Medical Office Assistant

The Kickstand IYS Hub offers youth, aged 12-25 years, free mental health and peer support, cultural connections, access to primary care and the opportunity to participate in a variety of skill development workshops.

Kickstand is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Office Assistant to join our primary care team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the delivery of comprehensive primary healthcare services to youth in Alberta. Working alongside a primary care provider (Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician), the Medical Office Assistant will be responsible for a variety of administrative (30%) and clinical tasks (70%) that ensure the smooth operation of the clinic. The successful candidate must be able to work flexible hours on a shift system to include evenings and weekends.

This position is classified as full-time contract and comes with an attractive benefits package.

Essential
Functions
  • Welcome all visitors with a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Register youth upon arrival and direct them to appropriate services offered by the Kickstand (IYS).
  • Educate patients on healthcare procedures and provide information on community resources and support services.
  • Prepare examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Measure and record patients’ vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rate.
  • Collect and prepare specimens for laboratory testing as directed by the primary care provider.
  • Efficiently manage appointment scheduling for the healthcare team
  • Maintain and update patient records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
What You'll Need for this Job
  • Medical Office Assistant certificate from a recognized institution.
  • 1 year experience in a clinical setting, preferably within a primary care environment.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software applications
  • Standard First Aid, Child Welfare & and WHMIS Certifications
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention Certification are assets.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable sector search
  • Excellent customer-service, communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
