Kids Help Phone is a Canadian and world leader, known for their expertise and continuous innovation as Canada’s only 24/7 professional counselling and information service for young people, in both French and English. Since 1989, we have offered kids, teens and young adults a critical lifeline of hope and support through our free, anonymous and confidential services. Young people reach out to Kids Help Phone’s professional counselors and trained volunteers from every corner of the country via phone, Live Chat and texting, and benefit from their database of local youth-serving programs. Kids Help Phone’s website is a widely recognized model of youth-focused design, offering therapeutic tools, games, information, and counseling.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Operations & CFO, the Policy Analyst will be well-informed to evaluate the existing policies that govern Kids Help Phone and inform the development of new policies to meet emerging data and privacy requirements (such as Quebec Law 25, etc). As our policy analyst, your duties will include reviewing existing policies, determining whether the policies align to their intended purpose, consulting with internal and external stakeholders and draft updates, revisions, etc.
To ensure success, you will have experience leading a similar scope of work, specialized knowledge related to corporate business policies, and a firm grasp on the legal considerations related to policy development.
The successful incumbent will also be expected to provide direction and advice that ultimately contributes to positive changes within the organization.
Policy Analyst Responsibilities:
- Applying specialist knowledge in evaluating existing policies
- Determining if policies are aligned with stated goals and objectives
- Consulting with external and internal stakeholders (including senior leadership) to ensure inclusion of relevant factors
- Identifying benefits, disadvantages, and omissions in existing policy frameworks
- Ensuring that policies and policy amendments meet legal requirements
- Reporting on findings and proposing new policies or amendments to existing policies
- Drafting new policies or amendments to policies and submitting proposals for review
- Editing and finalizing new policies or amendments as required
- Documenting processes and disseminating information to stakeholders
- Creating and maintaining the Corporate Policy Database (inventory) with predetermined review and renewal cycles for every policy
Policy Analyst Requirements:
- A master's degree in a related field preferred
- 3-4 years of experience in analyzing policies
- Extensive experience in determining if policies align with objectives
- Exceptional ability to determine policy oversights and omissions
- Knowledge of Compliance with Quebec Law 25 is an asset
- Proven experience recommending new policies or amendments and prepare draft versions
- In-depth research capability or knowledge of legal considerations relevant to policies
- Advanced knowledge of conventions and standards in policy writing
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience in preparing reports and presenting findings
- Excellent recordkeeping and communication skills
- Bilingualism is considered a strong asset but not required
