Process Improvement Specialist - Entry Level

Summary
THIS IS A PERFECT ROLE FOR NEW GRADS !
Reporting to the Director of Process Improvement, the Process Improvement Specialist will work directly with many major food processing clients. They will provide our clients with process planning, design and implementation services for their various capital projects, and will be tasked with managing the relationship between the client and Mallot Creek’s internal resources. Always maintaining a positive working relationship between all business units as well as budget and timelines, this highly developed individual has an understanding of the latest technologies, techniques in the food and beverage industry, and is supportive for research, proposal and report writing related initiatives in our ongoing project work.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate both in writing and verbally in a professional manner with clients, suppliers, project managers and other parties to effectively implement change.
- Stay current on new technologies in food processing and a desire to maintain and expand this knowledge to best serve the interests of our clients.
- Identify opportunities and effectively analyze production areas and gather sufficient information to quantitatively justify changes or improvements.
- Track, monitor, and trend performance using metrics and key performance indicators.
- Attend on-site analysis and client meetings at various locations.
- Ability to work in a variety of food manufacturing environments including meat processing plants, bakeries, etc.
- Ability to work autonomously and comfortable voicing opinions in a team environment.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Skilled technically with working knowledge of process machines and integration.
- Persuasive presentation skills.
- Compelling written communication skills and experience writing effective reports and proposals.
- General understanding of basic food safety principles.
- Effective time management and project management skills to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
- A valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle and a willingness to travel occasionally, including out of province.
Education and Experience
- Completion of a College or University diploma or degree in Food Sciences, Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in food manufacturing or process improvement.
- MS Office Suite - Word (Intermediate), Excel (Advanced including functions such as pivot tables/charts, vlookup, and statistical functions), Power Point (Intermediate), Visio (Intermediate).
- Familiarity of the Agri-food, beverage, and/or pharmaceutical industries.
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma improvement tools and methodologies.
- Experience using Auto CAD or similar software to view and edit plant layouts.
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- Initiative and judgment in applying standard procedures as well as problem solving.
- Ability to deal with multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service skills including presenting ideas and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in performing key responsibilities with minimal direction and oversight.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient working in a high‐performance environment, dealing with customers in a professional manner, and willingness to travel primarily within Ontario if required for projects.
- Willingness to learn and train those in need.
