Maamwesying Ontario Health Team – Project Specialist for Mental Health and Addictions
Location: Work Remotely or as required at the Maamwesying Head Office at Serpent River First Nation or the satellite office in Sault Ste. Marie, ON
3 Year Contract Position

The opportunity: Under the direction of the Maamwesying Ontario Health Director, the Project Specialist Mental Health and Addictions is directly accountable for providing project management consultation, strategic expertise, and coordination of the delivery of integrated mental health and addictions care initiatives for the Maamwesying Ontario Health Team.
What you need to bring with you:
- Baccalaureate Degree in a related discipline is required
- Project Management experience working in the mental health and addictions sector is required
- Knowledge of population health datasets (e.g. Statistic Canada projections, CIHI’s population grouping methodology, NACRS, DAD, OCAN) would be an asset
- Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams that include internal and external partners and stakeholders
- Knowledge of, and interest in the health issues affecting Indigenous people.
- Ability to speak Ojibway is an asset
- Excellent ability to prioritize and organize work and consistently demonstrate initiative to improve processes
- Flexible thinker, with an ability to quickly adapt to a changing environment
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft 365 software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook) and Google Drive is required
- Good understanding of Ontario’s healthcare system and healthcare administration (asset)
- Knowledge of Ontario’s OHT model and local OHT structure/plan (asset)
- Self-directed, continual learner able to work with minimal supervision to plan, prioritize, and proactively manage schedules, tasks, and changing needs
- Experience working with Indigenous people, organizations, and communities
- Knowledge and experience of Anishinabek Health and Traditional healing practices
- A clear criminal reference check is a condition of employment
- Must have access to a reliable vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license

What to expect? Given the traditional practices of Indigenous people, from time-to-time exposure to smoke from the burning of sacred medicines such as tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar may occur. Hiring of Indigenous People will be given preference, as allowed under Section 14 of the Ontario Human Rights Code – Special Programs.
