Regional Engineer, Western Canada

Salary Range: $97,600 - $121,900, based on a 35-hour work week. Starting salary will be commensurate on the candidate’s education and experience, as it relates to this position.
Location: Hybrid position within Western Canada, Alberta, Saskatchewan and/or Manitoba.

What You Will Do
As the Western Regional Engineer, you will perform a full range of specialized technical services, including but not limited to:
- Maintaining key relationships within DUC and liaison to conservation management staff.
- Leading provincial dam safety efforts in multiple provinces, ensuring compliance to internal and Provincial guidelines. Contributing to DSRs, Dam Emergency Plan and Operation Maintenance and Surveillance plan preparation as required.
- Providing guidance in design, contract management and cost estimating for wetland conservation infrastructure, including earthworks and water conveyance structures.
- Providing expert knowledge and leadership to the team in hydrotechnical and civil engineering, to assist with project proposals, planning, delivery and implementation, regulatory approvals and permitting.
- Contributing to team resource management, long-range planning, and budgeting with the provincial asset management team.
- Supervising a growing team of junior engineers and engineering technologists
- Maintaining DUC’s Certificate of Authorization and Permits to Practice within Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba as the appointed Responsible Person, ensuring compliance in all provinces.
- Providing leadership in provincial long-range planning and budgeting.
Requirements
- Civil, Environmental, or Geological Engineering degree or equivalent
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) Designation.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in hydrologic, hydraulic, water resources, geotechnical, or dam safety engineering, including experience with project design and construction; including at least 3 years of supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong financial/budgeting and project management skills.
- Strong experience leading, motivating and growing a team.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
- Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Valid class 5 driver’s license.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel as required.
- Knowledge of and experience with hydrology and design flow estimation methods.
- Experience with Office 365, Auto Desk, HEC-RAS, HEC-SSP, HEC-HMS and other hydrologic/hydraulic modelling software, GIS, or Geo Studio.
- Experience in the design of dams or earth berms (including water control structures), as well as dam safety, including Canadian Dam Association (CDA) Guidelines, and British Columbia and/or Alberta Dam Safety Regulations, considered a strong asset.
- Contract and construction management considered an asset.
- The successful candidate will also have an affinity to the outdoors, conservation and the world of waterfowl.
