Kinsmen Lodge
Registered Nurse (Casual)

CONTRACT

Responsibilities:
1. Performs required procedures such as infection prevention and control protocols, specimen collection, wound care, bowel care including colostomy care, oxygen therapy, CPAP, oral suctioning, vital signs including bowel and chest assessment, palliative care, enteral nutrition, Foley catheter care; records interventions, observations as required and according to facility policies and procedures.
2. Administers medications, including oral, intramuscular, transdermal, subcutaneous, and rectal route in compliance with policies and procedures and best practices per the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completes documentation on EMAR and reports concerns to Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN).
3. In conjunction with other interdisciplinary team members and external health care providers, participates in the development and modification of the individual Elders’ care plan by contributing information, participating in discussions and the selection of appropriate nursing interventions and goals.
4. Documents and reports changes (expected and unexpected) in Elder status to the CRN. Completes documentation and reports as per standards such as Progress Notes, Incident Reports, Annual Nursing Assessments, RAI-MDS, Care Plans, Dementia Observation System (DOS), Wound Assessment and Treatment Flow Sheet (WAFTS); requests reassessments as required.
5. Reviews and completes follow-up on lab results, physician’s orders, and consults from specialists.
6. Provides personal care to Elders such as assisting with bathing, dressing, skin care and grooming, making and changing beds, assisting with toileting needs, encouraging/assisting with opportunities for recreation, spiritual and social activities.
7. Feeds, assists or prompts the Elder to eat and take adequate fluids as individually indicated by care plans/worksheets and Dietician. This may include the completion of tray requisitions, serving and collecting meal trays, and provision of food supplements and nourishments.
8. Transfers and transports Elders utilizing established techniques and mechanical aids as prescribed. Staff must complete the education on transfer devices and good body mechanics.
9. Responds to incidents/emergencies in accordance with policy/procedure and training.
10. Ensures identification of Elders ID bracelet, profile picture on Point Click Care, and personal effects, including clothing, hearing aids.
11. Ensures nursing equipment and supplies are used and stored in a safe and efficient manner.
12. Reports hazards, incidents, accidents, and unsafe or faulty equipment/ furniture to Director of Building Operations/Maintenance Department.
13. Assists with staff education and provides orientation to students and new personnel to job requirements, equipment and routines.
14. Attends and provides input at meetings/committees/rounds/care conferences/medication reviews and education sessions as required.
15. Promotes and maintains positive communication with all Elders/families, co-workers, students, allied health professionals and visitors.
16. Demonstrates knowledge of fire/emergency procedures and policies of the facility. Participates in fire and emergency drills.
17. Advocates for the Elders and their families to protect and promotes their rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity and access to information.
18. Participates, as directed, in program evaluation and continuous quality improvement activities within the facility, including Accreditation Canada, and other Fraser Health required surveys (i.e., Annual Licensing Inspections, Infection Prevention and Control Audit, and Quality Assurance Review).
19. Maintains current registration and is a member in good standing with BCCNM.
20. Contributes to creating Kinsmen Lodge as a true home in keeping with our Kinsmen Lodge Philosophy of Care.
21. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Graduation from a recognized program for Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a current Registered Nurse license with BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- Current Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 1
- One-year experience as a practicing RN, preferably in Complex Care or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Point Click Care, EMAR)
