The Team
The Canadian Banking Engineering team is responsible for ideation support, design, engineering, and implementation of software to ensure modernization, continuous improvement, and evolution of the Canadian Banking Engineering ecosystem at Scotiabank. This is an opportunity to work in the fast-moving and exciting world of Client Primary and Personalization. We are looking for a Senior Manager, Engineering to join this dynamic team and take on a challenging and exciting role.
You will be responsible for managing a team of business systems analysts, software engineers, testers and functional leads engaged in the design, engineering, and delivery of efficient and cost-effective technical solutions across a mix of in-house and vendor platforms to resolve complex, multi-dimensional business problems. You will have the opportunity to work with talent individuals from cross functional teams and be responsible to implement market leading solutions that are scalable, high quality, deliver excellence, and add value to our business partners and customers.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

Help drive strategy to transform current platforms using new technologies and tools available that best support the business need.

Responsible for the design, architecture and the successful implementation of effective and quality solutions that resolve highly complex business problems and support business needs.

Ensure that delivery meets the integrity, quality, performance, and reliability requirements by building automated testing and regression suites and use of Dev Ops principles.

Effectively manage a team of technical professional by setting performance expectations, monitoring performance, and providing technical guidance and coaching. This includes leading the recruitment of talent and building high performing teams.

Incorporate modern technologies and practices to reduce operational cost and improve security, availability, reliability of overall business systems.

Champions a customer focused and high performing culture and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

The role requires interaction with business and technology leadership, consequently effective communications commensurate with the audience and the ability to promote an idea and gain consensus is critical.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:
-
3-5 years of progressive software development and IT delivery experience, with a strong technical background and experience leading and building high performance teams
-
3+ years of experience working with modern Big Data platforms (e.g. Mulesoft, Talend, Data Stage)
-
3+ years of experience working with Java (e.g. Spring)
-
3+ years of code review / Architecture experience
-
Experience with Pub/Sub Brokers (e.g., Kafka)
-
Experience working with Realtime, high availability and low latency systems.
-
Experience working with Saa S platforms
-
Previous people management experience
-
Excellent communication and presentation skills to manage stakeholder relations, and work with cross-departmental teams – ability to communicate effectively depending on the audience and build consensus with stakeholder groups.

Disciplined in development methodology and familiar with software development technologies and concepts. Good understanding of object-oriented design and design patterns, micro services architecture and high performance, and multi-threading techniques
