Job Summary
The Team
As part of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) at Ministry of Health, you will work in a team established in 2014, consisting of 4 Investigators and a Major Case Management Specialist under the direction of the Senior Director of Investigations. The SIU is dedicated to protecting the integrity of the Medical Services Plan by conducting criminal and regulatory investigations, often collaborating with stakeholders such as the Colleges of Physicians and Pharmacists, and law enforcement agencies. The team is known for its diverse skill sets, professionalism, and strong sense of teamwork, making it a supportive and dynamic environment for tackling complex cases.
The Role
In this role, you’ll use your expertise in criminal and regulatory investigations to collaborate on joint initiatives and task forces, helping to uphold the financial integrity of the Medical Services Plan. Your work will play a vital role in ensuring that British Columbians receive efficient and effective medical services. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma in administrative law, investigation, enforcement, criminology, or a related field and 3 years
related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and *related experience may be considered.
Related experience must include a minimum of 1 year in each of the following:
  • Experience in investigative techniques, with a policing and/or commercial crime background.
  • Experience with the Major Case File Management process.
  • Experience in leading and organizing search warrants, sometimes involving multiple agencies.
  • Experience completing court briefs, Search Warrants and Production Orders and securing evidence in accordance with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
  • Experience with covert operations and surveillance methods.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • 4 or more years of experience in investigative techniques, with a policing and/or commercial crime background.
  • 4 or more years of experience with the Major Case File Management process.
  • 4 or more years experience in setting up and managing multi-agency task forces.
  • 4 or more years experience in leading and organizing search warrants, sometimes involving multiple agencies.
Willingness statements:
  • Required to work in locations that may pose a variety of risks/hazards.
  • May be required to travel alone, late at night in remote areas of the province, under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Required to work weekends, evenings, on a flexible schedule.
Provisos:
  • Satisfactory background and security screening to qualify as a Special Provincial Constable.
  • Valid B.C. driver’s licence or equivalent with the ability to obtain a B.C. Drivers license.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 4 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
