Aarhus

FULL TIME

September 26, 2024

The Department of Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in the field of Translational Psychopharmacology as per 1 April 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a full-time permanent position. Department of Clinical Medicine
As an associate professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, you will be part of what is probably the largest health science research department in Denmark. Our clinical research covers all the medical specialties and takes place in close collaboration with the university hospital and the regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. The department has overall responsibility for the Master's degree programs in medicine and in molecular medicine. At the department we are approx. 670 academic employees, 500 Ph D students and 160 technical/administrative employees who are cooperating across disciplines. As an associate professor, you will be working at Aarhus University Hospital or another hospital in the Central Denmark Region. Your job responsibilities
As Associate Professor of Translational Psychopharmacology, you will contribute to the department’s research and teaching environment and to the faculty’s overall research strategy. You will contribute to the development of the department both individually and in collaboration with others via your research of high international quality. You ensure that your teaching maintains a high academic and didactic standard. You possess professional collaborative skills and a broad academic network which you are able to bring into play in your contribution to the academic development of Aarhus University and its profile both nationally and internationally. Job profile
This position as Associate Professor of Translational Psychopharmacology targets candidates developing high-level pharmacological research in pharmacology, neuroscience and translational psychiatry, with experience using state-of-the-art experimental approaches in animal and cell biology. We seek a candidate with a strong documented background in psychopharmacology with significant high-level publications in this field, demonstrating independent research-related qualifications at a high international level.

As Associate Professor of Translational Psychopharmacology, you will contribute to strengthening the implementation of the strategy at TNU and the Department of Clinical Medicine. You will join a supportive environment that allows faculty to develop robust research programs, and you will add to, extend, and complement the research environment at TNU. You are expected to contribute – individually and in collaboration with others – to the development of TNU by research of high international quality and to ensure a high academic and didactic standard in teaching.

You possess excellent collaborative skills and already have a broad academic network, which you can bring into play in your contribution to the academic development of TNU and strengthen its profile both nationally and internationally.

Your main tasks will consist of:
  • Research of high international quality, including publication in top international journals and communicating your research in national and international academic networks.
  • Teaching and supervision of Bachelor’s and Master's degree students and contribution to the development of new teaching activities.
  • To contribute to the funding with the help of external research funding.
  • Implementing and developing independent, innovative, externally funded research programs
  • Supervision of Ph D students and contributing to the development of the faculty's Ph D courses.
  • Involvement in assessment and committee work at Aarhus University.
  • Dissemination of your research to the outside world.
  • Development, implementation and application of new methods in translational psychopharmacology
  • Organization of a Summer school in Psychopharmacology
You will report to the Professor and Head at the Translational Neuropsychiatry Unit, Gregers Wegener. Your competences
You have established yourself as a prominent researcher within Translational Psychopharmacology and you possess documented solid research and teaching qualifications at a high international level. You have broad international cooperative partnerships and experience of research partnerships with private and public-sector stakeholders, and you have potential of becoming a skilled group leader. At the same time, you have experience of attracting significant research funding from national and international funding bodies. We draw attention to a stay or employment at at least one internationally recognised research institution.

You have an independent profile experience in performing translational neuroscience and pharmacological research and fit into the overall research profile of TNU. You are ready to establish yourself as a Principal Investigator.

Your scientific qualifications correspond to a minimum of a Ph.D. degree within translational neuropsychiatry or translational neuropsychopharmacology, at least 8 years of postdoctoral or similar experience, a track record of front-line state-of-the-art research, initiated post-graduate student supervision, and good teaching qualifications. You have international cooperative partnerships and naturally involve yourself in interdisciplinary collaboration, nationally and internationally, at departmental, faculty, and university levels.

The successful candidate should have a track record of impactful and significant publications in leading neuroscience and molecular pharmacology journals, documenting a solid background in neuropsychopharmacology. Qualifications
You should have hands-on experience with the technical platforms available in TNU, including advanced cellular techniques, behavioral animal phenotyping, neurochemical techniques, molecular techniques, genetic/epigenetic techniques, systems biology approaches, immunostaining, and imaging techniques. It is advantageous if you have demonstrated experience with the following:
  • manipulation of cellular functions with high spatiotemporal resolution (e.g., optogenetics)
  • heterologous expression of recombinant proteins in neuronal culture and cell lines
  • advanced analysis of drug-receptor interaction (e.g. binding assays, microscale thermophoresis, proximity-ligation assay, cytometry-based drug-receptor dissociation assay)
  • analysis of molecular dynamics in neurons (e.g., Fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP))
  • advanced microscopy techniques (e.g., confocal and super-resolution microscopy- d STORM)
  • Experience with teaching in pharmacology and neuroscience.
As a person, you are dedicated and a skilled communicator. You are able to build relationships based on trust with students, colleagues and partners. As a lecturer you communicate the newest and relevant knowledge in a committed, clear and comprehensible manner. As a supervisor you are professional, inspiring and inclusive.

You are ready to take co-responsibility for the development of the department's research and education at the highest international level and for ensuring that we maintain a good work environment. You naturally involve yourself in interdisciplinary collaboration at departmental, faculty and university level as well as nationally and internationally.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges Danish teaching.

In order to be assessed as qualified for an Associate Professor position, you must meet these academic criteria. Questions about the position
