Computational and experimental Researcher in human intestinal gut microbiome and plasma metabolome research
Copenhagen
FULL TIME
August 30, 2024
University of Copenhagen
We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Researcher with competence in both computational analysis and experimental rodent, cellular and molecular experimental validation of human intestinal microbiome and plasma metabolome research. The position is anchored in the research team of Associate Professor Tune Pers at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, University of Copenhagen.
The duration of the position is 18 months, starting on January 1, 2025, or after agreement.
Background
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) is an academic research Center that pioneers groundbreaking research towards better cardiometabolic health. Through collaborative interdisciplinary research from single-cell genomics to whole-body systems, CBMR aims to transform the basic understanding of cardiometabolic health and accelerate its translation into prevention and treatment strategies. The Center’s uniquely multi- and interdisciplinary approach combines research in genetics, physiology and pharmacology, to better understand the complex interplay of the many factors that drive cardiometabolic disease. You can learn more in the Executive Summary of CBMR's Strategy 2024–2028.
CBMR was established in 2010 at the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences and is located at the Maersk Tower at PANUM since 2017. Around 260 employees create an international, highly collaborative research environment across disciplines.
Our group and research
The Pers Group investigates the human genome and the human global microbiome to characterize the impact of these genomes on health and disease and to identify interactions between the host and the microbiome. You can read more about the Pers Group here. The current research project is undertaken in collaboration with Professor Oluf Borbye Pedersen, Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Copenhagen and Gentofte Hospital.
Project description
The present research project is focused on a large-scale study of the gut microbiome in more than 600 Europeans with prediabetes, who have been extensively phenotyped at study entrance and at follow-up after four years. The objective is to explore the role of an aberrant gut microbiome and the related untargeted plasma metabolome in the pathogenesis of overt type 2 diabetes. Omics findings are validated in silico and experimentally.
Your job
Your task and responsibility will be to undertake computational and experimental studies. Major experience in both competence areas is requested to comply with project needs.
Profile
We are looking for a highly experienced Researcher with the following competencies and qualifications:
- Ph D in bioinformatics, computational and experimental biology
- Minimum of at least three years of postdoc experience within bioinformatics, computational and experimental biology
- Extensive knowledge of microbiomics and metabolomics
- Long-term and advanced wet-lab experience in animal-, cellular and molecular experimentation within the space of metabolism
- The ability to interpret and communicate microbiome and metabolome results in a physiological and clinical setting
- Proven track record showing internationally exceptional scientific productivity in peer reviewed journals.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
The place of employment is at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Maersk Tower, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.
Terms of employment
The employment as Researcher is a full-time and fixed-term position for 18 months. The starting date is January 1, 2025, or after agreement.
Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Depending on qualifications, a supplement is negotiated.
Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a Ph D degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.
