Are you looking for an exciting internship opportunity with one of the world’s largest international NGOs? Then you might be our new intern for the spring semester!
Who are we?
Humanitarian Disarmament & Peacebuilding (HDP) is one of DRC’s five core sectors, specialising in Humanitarian Mine Action and Peacebuilding.
HDP’s work is guided by the Safer Communities approach, working to strengthen community resilience and build local capacities to reduce and remove weapons-related risks, and factors that may result in the use of weapons. HDP strives to achieve this through Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) activities, focusing on landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW), as well as Peacebuilding programmes. Peacebuilding activities build on communities’ own visions, abilities, capacities and resources for improved security and safety. This is done through conflict sensitive, participatory and inclusive processes addressing conflict, security and safety at community level. HDP’s work is vital in helping refugees, internally displaced people and other communities return to their homes when the conflict has ended, allowing them to make use of the land they were forced to leave behind and facilitating development.
About the internship
As the new HDP intern, you will have tasks related to supporting information management as well as general support to HDP HQ. You will be given the possibility to work independently with different tasks that are related to their area of study and will be given a thorough introduction to the working relations at the headquarters of an organisation that implements HMA and Peacebuilding in more than 20 countries. Also, you will be working closely with the Student Assistant.
Key tasks:
  • Manage and analyse the monthly outputs of mine operations from country programmes and present and distribute the data overview in Excel.
  • Support the collection and production of information required for various work processes ranging from grants management to proposal writing procedures.
  • Act as a point of contact for ad hoc queries and requests for administrative support coming from the regional/country programmes and/or HQ.
  • Collect data and produce fact sheets and infographics and other graphic content.
  • Maintain and update the organisation’s file storage systems, i.e. collect, store and disseminate a set of documents (reports, reviews, etc.) in a periodic and systematic manner.
  • Support organising meetings and internal events as well as producing and distributing minutes of meetings.
  • Support in the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) processes in terms of making output indicators available and handling data collection.

We offer flexibility in the type of tasks, so you also have the possibility to influence the tasks, subject to what is relevant for your study programme.

About you
You will be working individually and alongside other colleagues on matters concerning information, quality and data management. You are the focal point for receiving data from HDP’s country operations all over the world and will thus benefit from getting a close view and understanding of the outputs of a large humanitarian INGO. Therefore, you should be able to meet the following requirements:
  • Be effective in the use of Office 365 and have solid knowledge of Excel or related database management software.
  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be able to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Be able to work systematically with a good structure for the tasks that you are responsible for.
  • Have an eye for the detail and strive to get the job done.
  • Be fluent in both written and spoken English. Other languages (e.g., Arabic, French, Spanish) are an asset, but not a requirement.
  • Interest in information management, disarmament and peacebuilding, humanitarian and development work, and international affairs is an asset.

It is a requirement that you are enrolled at a university to be considered for the internship. Therefore, applicants should be pursuing a degree in:
  • International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies, Peace and Conflict studies or other related social science fields.
  • Students of Information Science, IT and Administration, IT and Economics, and alike are also encouraged to apply.
All employees and interns in DRC should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity.
We offer
Contract length: 4-6 months subject to study requirements and further dialogue
Workplace: DRC Headquarters located at Borgergade 10, Copenhagen (Denmark)
Start date: 13th of January 2025. We can be flexible on the start date.
Working hours: Approximately 30 hours per week, subject to study requirements and further dialogue. We offer flexibility when you have study obligations next to the internship.
The internship is not paid but we offer:
  • 2,08 (unpaid) vacation days per month. The days can either be spent as you earn them or be accumulated
  • Free lunch in our canteen
  • Free participation in our Winter/Summer party

Please note that if you do not have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa), you will need to apply for it if selected for the internship. This process can take up to three months. You can read more here.
