Senior Quantum Engineer
Copenhagen
FULL TIME
November 1, 2024
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) is establishing a talented and diverse international team to create a cutting-edge quantum programme in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. At the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, where the formulation of Quantum Mechanics was born 100 years ago, we aim to establish an international quantum computing programme, funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, that will drive research and innovations at multiple levels - from developing scalable quantum processor technologies to solutions for the quantum-classical control and readout interface, and all the way to quantum algorithms and applications. The long-term mission of the programme is to develop fault-tolerant quantum computing hardware and quantum algorithms that solve life-science-relevant chemical and biological problems.
Job description
We are looking for a Senior Quantum Engineer with over four years of experience in the field of quantum computing to join the Spin Qubit Team at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP). The team is led by Assist. Prof. Francesco Borsoi and focuses on achieving a quantum advantage to solve life science problems exploiting the unique properties of semiconductor quantum dots processors. To reach this ambitious goal, we are building a world-class research group and developing state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The Spin Qubit group is a newly established pilot line at NQCP, and we are seeking an entrepreneurial, passionate, and innovative individual who can work independently across a wide range of topics. Due to the broad scope of this position, the role can be tailored to the candidate. We highly encourage applications from underrepresented groups in the field to apply.
This is a unique opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary data-driven environment, collaborating with teams specializing in nanofabrication, material characterization, quantum device simulation, and quantum algorithms. The candidate will lead critical developments in quantum hardware and contribute to cutting-edge research and engineering.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee and develop cryogenics and measurement setups for qubit control and characterization in newly established Spin Qubit lab at NQCP.
- Design and conduct quantum dot spin qubit experiments, coordinating with cross-functional teams across NQCP.
- Daily supervision and mentorship of junior group members, contributing to creating a collaborative and inclusive research environment.
- Codevelop and maintain software architecture for data acquisition and precise qubit control.
- Envision solutions to wiring bottleneck and control challenges in solid state quantum computing systems.
- Coordinate with academic and industrial research partners.
Qualifications
- A Ph D in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Material Science or related fields. Postdoctoral or R&D experience is highly valued.
- Proven record of design, development and control of qubits in solid state.
- Solid experience in the use of dc and high-frequency electronics such as DACs, AWGs, and MW signal generators.
- Ability to independently use dilution refrigerators.
- Knowledge of data acquisition software and programming skills in Python.
- Strong communication skills and intercultural sensitivity.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
Why Us?
Joining NQCP now, you will be involved from the very beginning and contribute to the fulfilment of the mission of NQCP. We want to make Denmark a world leader in quantum research, and we hope to attract people from all over the world.
Life in Denmark is supported with strong social services (free universal healthcare, free/subsidised language courses, paid parental leave, subsidised day care institutions and excellent public schools). Our work culture is very egalitarian and prioritises work life balance. Dual career families are the norm, and workplaces offer flexibility to support everyone in having both an exciting career and good family time. Danish cities are known for having excellent infrastructure, for example through widespread bike path networks. We can also offer a thriving food-scene, excellent museums, and beautiful natural scenery.
The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
Terms of salary and employment
