The Galapagos Ecological Airport, distinguished by its unique characteristics and specific environmental conditions, is the first airport to achieve sustainability certification and environmental quality recognition. The initiative for the development and transformation of the airport as a whole, and particularly the passenger terminal, complies with international sustainability standards, notably the LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
This project focuses on resurfacing the flexible pavement of the Galapagos Ecological Airport to enhance the load capacity, durability, and safety of the infrastructure. It aims to accomplish these goals through adequate technical design, sustainable material selection, and implementation of construction practices that minimize environmental impact, thereby supporting efficient airport operations and meeting both local and international regulatory standards.

This project focuses on resurfacing the flexible pavement of the Galapagos Ecological Airport to enhance the load capacity, durability, and safety of the infrastructure. It aims to accomplish these goals through adequate technical design, sustainable material selection, and implementation of construction practices that minimize environmental impact, thereby supporting efficient airport operations and meeting both local and international regulatory standards.
Responsabilidades e atribuições
- Assess current pavement conditions and overall site requirements.
- Collect data on airport traffic and usage patterns.
- Develop the Terms of Teference (TOR).
- Prepare the reference budget.
- Create a comprehensive project schedule with defined milestones and deadlines.
- Manage the permitting process with local and environmental authorities.
- Oversee the contractor selection process, including bid solicitation.
- Review and evaluate proposals received.
- Conduct interviews with shortlisted contractors.
- Collaborate with the purchasing department to select the contractor based on technical and financial criteria.
- Track project progress in alignment with the project schedule.
- Supervise material quality and ensure proper execution of paving techniques.
- Manage and coordinate on-site labor, materials, and equipment.
- Hold weekly meetings to evaluate progress and solve problems.
- Conduct laboratory tests to verify material compliance with specifications.
- Evaluate and process requests for design or scope modifications.
- Perform a final inspection to confirm adherence to project standards.
- Conduct load testing and assess pavement performance.
- Compile final project documentation, including technical reports, quality certifications, and as-built drawings.
- Train airport personnel on maintenance procedures for the new pavement.
- Develop a maintenance plan for the newly installed flexible pavement.
Requisitos e qualificações
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and postgraduate degree in Pavement or Project Management.
- Experience in design and resurfacing of flexible flooring.
- Experience in Preparation of Terms of Reference (TOR) and technical documents.
- Knowledge of material strength, paving techniques and types of pavement.
- Familiarity with local and international construction and environmental regulations.
- Knowledge of aerodrome design standards and requirements.
- Proficiency in software: Auto CAD, Civil 3D, MS Project, and MATLAB.

- Managing logistics, including vessel availability and access to qualified labor, within a remote and regulated environment.
- Implementing sustainable practices to enhance airport infrastructure aligned with environmental regulations and conservation goals.
- Supporting sustainable regional development by balancing tourism and trade demands with the conservation priorities of the Galapagos Islands.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must be an employee of any of CAAP’s Subsidiaries, with a minimum of 12 months lenght of service, not on leave for personal or health reasons.
- Demonstrate solid performance and a strong desire for professional growth.
- Free of disciplinary actions or legal proceedings.
- Not in an executive role (directors or equivalent).
- Have a valid passport and meet visa requirements* for the host country. (Visa requirements vary by country; CAAP’s HR team will assist you with guidance).
Travel Expenses
Will be covered:
- The home country will pay for current salary, travel tickets and health insurance.
- The host country will cover day to day expenses (meals, transportation, etc) and housing.
