Introduction
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer, Gearboxes to join the Grinding, Bulk, Pyro (GBP) Business Line in our Services Business Area! In this position, you will be part of the Global Metso Services Gearbox team providing engineering and technical support to the Metso´s Services group. This position takes ownership and responsibility for the gearbox calculations. This includes gearing calculation with material and geometries selections as well as bearing calculations. This is coupled with an overall understanding of the gearbox loads at the system level.
Your role will build up the calculation structure by selecting appropriate tooling and methods. You will also be the main technical interface to gear component suppliers and the bearing manufacturers. In this position, you will report to Senior Manager, Gearboxes.
This position is preferably located in Tampere or Espoo, but we are open to receiving applications from elsewhere in Finland. We offer flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options. Please note that occasional domestic and international travel might be required.

You will join a gearbox team that is passionate about developing Tier One solutions for our customers. We are currently building a dedicated team and starting to develop gearbox technology for Metso equipment for Services' projects.

What you’ll do
Provide technical expertise and supervision on Metso Services' projects.
Offer local and global support in design, fabrication, quality assurance, sourcing, and troubleshooting.
Initiate, execute, maintain, and manage product specifications, design programs, and development projects.
Build and maintain the calculation environment for gearbox design.
Develop gearbox and drivetrain solutions for heavy industry applications.
Lead calculations for reverse engineering, build-to-specification, and in-house component development.
Troubleshoot design issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.
Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, test procedures, and engineering reports.
Support procurement and sales functions, and provide technical guidance to suppliers.
Who you are
BSc or MSc degree from a relevant area of Mechanical Design paired with extensive experience in the gearbox field.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor, Siemens NX), PLM tools (e.g. Teamcenter, Vault, Enovia) and gearing + bearings calculation tools (e.g., KISSsoft, ST-plus, bearing X, Sim Pro). Working knowledge of SAP.
Theoretical and practical background in Mechanical Engineering design principles and machine design.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, manufacturing processes, structural analysis, and industry standards.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for addressing complex engineering challenges.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with a capability of articulating technical concepts to various stakeholders and leading technical projects.
Product knowledge of major mining equipment is a plus.
