Research engineer in high-speed technology

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled research engineer to join our research team at the Laboratory of Electrical Drives Technology. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research projects aimed at developing innovative solutions in high-speed technology. This role involves a combination of theoretical and applied research for prototype development, measurement design and technical problem-solving. The background organisation is related to Centre of Excellence in High-Speed Energy Conversion Systems (Hi ECSs) and the laboratories of machine dynamics, control engineering and electrical drives technology.
Key responsibilities

• Conducting experimental research in high-speed technology following electrical safety rules and taking care that the measurement systems are safe. Therefore, the engineer should be qualified to work independently on electrical installations or be prepared to acquire such qualifications quickly.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to design and prototype new technologies.
• Assisting in the preparation of grant proposals and project documentation.
• Supporting and collaborating with laboratory engineers.
• Collaborating with research teams.

What we expect

• M.Sc. or D.Sc. degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical or automation engineering) or B.Sc. degree with significant experience in a relevant field.
• Proven experience in research, development and practical testing design, preferably in high-speed technology.
• Strong background in any of the following fields: automation systems, electrical drives, high-speed technology.
• Experience in the following areas is beneficial: power electronics, electro-mechanical systems, control system design, rotor dynamics and vibration measurements, fluid dynamics and turbomachinery, measurement technology.
• Proficiency in the Finnish language is considered an advantage.

Employment relationship and pay
The position is located in Lappeenranta. The salary is based on the current collective agreement for Finnish universities. The salary is typically on requirement levels 8–9 (EUR 2787,57–3213,69 / month), on the expert and support staff pay scale. In addition, the pay includes a personal, performance-based salary element 6–50 %. The typical entry-level salary in similar positions is EUR 3300–3800 / month.
The employment relationship is permanent and full-time. The work will begin as soon as possible by agreement and has a six-month trial period.
