Interim Financial Coordinator
The Santa Cruz Toddler Care Center is an award winning, model nonprofit child care center serving a diverse population of one and two year olds for over 40 years. We are pioneering outdoor education for toddlers using the RIE philosophy of care, with a highly qualified staff and very low teacher:child ratio. Our organic, toddler-friendly vegetable garden serves as a resource for our curriculum and our organic vegetarian meals cooked onsite.
Salary: $36 - $40/hour
Hours: 16-32 hours a week, depending on responsibilities, skill level, and experience.
Can be hybrid or onsite
Must be onsite Mondays, at a minimum
Position Available: December 2024 through May 2025 with potential for extension and/or permanent position.
Training: Mid-November

  • You will be part of a non-profit dedicated to expanding the boundaries of the highest potential of toddler care, both within the Center and via community education.
What you’ll be doing:
  • Oversee all financial matters – guide the Center’s adherence to a Board-approved annual budget; coordinate production of monthly financial reports, billing for parents and social services, account receivables/account payables; and manage and administer human resource benefits for a small staff.
  • Work with parents to evaluate eligibility for sliding scale, scholarships and/or government subsidies.
  • Complete grant reports, maintain mandated government forms, oversee all required insurance coverage, coordinate completion of 990’s and submission of state personnel forms with the support of contract bookkeeper.
  • Generate continued giving and partnerships - manage leads to create more donors and sponsors.
  • Support Executive Director with decision making by providing relevant financial information.
  • Liaise with the Board of Directors by providing financial reports at monthly board meetings.
  • Liaise with Banks, Credit Unions, ADP, Insurance Companies, Worker’s Comp, EDD and other similar agencies.
  • Help plan and attend staff meetings, family and community events as needed.
  • Potential to work alongside with the Executive Director/Program Director to:
  • Maintain the TCC external image and voice - you are a significant voice for our center with the community and governmental entities.
  • Oversee the physical site which is owned by the center.
  • Model and implement the RIE philosophy of child care practiced at the Center.
  • Participate in hiring of center staff.
  • Create an atmosphere of respect and integrity.
  • Attend bi-monthly staff meetings.
  • Act as co- leader of the center, particularly in the absence of the Program Director.
  • Manage our digital and online content including our book, videos, website and more

  • You have a background or have taken classes in early childhood education.
  • You embrace the importance of healthy food choices including a plant based diet and organic locally grown food.
  • You have a personal understanding of the importance of high quality childcare.
Education and Desired Experience:
  • BA or AS in related field.
  • Experience in nonprofit management, including fiscal management and budgeting.
  • Experience in fundraising as well as donor management and cultivation.
  • Proficient with ADP, Quickbooks, Excel, and G Suite.
  • Experience with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
  • Ability to successfully forecast financials.
  • Ability to understand, create, and track budgets.
COVID-19 Requirement: The Santa Cruz Toddler Care Center requires that all staff be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations as per CDC recommendations. Regular surveillance testing may also be required.
