Masterand within the development of an Integral Rib Interface Concept Study (d/f/m)

You will be working at the largest production site for civil aircraft situated in Hamburg. Its location on the southern banks of the river Elbe includes the option to commute by ferry. Your Master Thesis

Main goal is to modify the design of the composite ribs located in the load carrying structure of the Vertical Stabilizer. The target design is a composite integral C-rib design, which enables adjustments in the interface loads, eliminates the need for separate ties and reduces the overall number of riveted connections.
The thesis includes analytical calculations, FEM analysis and correlation with test results and an outlook on the opportunities in the production process.

Your tasks and responsibilities

• Understand and describe the main differences between integral and differential rib designs
  
• Analyze the new integral rib interface concept on a lab-scale FE model
  
• Highlight the variation potential in the interface loads in a parameter study (lab-scale)
  
• Creation of a new rib design concept based on the lab-scale research
  
• Validation of interface loads with a detailed rib integrated into a GFEM
  

Desired skills and qualifications

• Enrolled full time student (d/f/m) within Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics or similar field of study
  
• You bring a genuine interest in Airbus and our products
  
• You have basic composite structure analysis & optimization knowledge
  
• You are keen to understand physical aspects and to develop yourself
  
• English: fluent
  
• You are a good team player and are able to work independently.
